The Oklahoma City Thunder have clinched their inaugural NBA championship by defeating the Indiana Pacers with a score of 103–91 in the decisive Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals, marking their entry into an exclusive circle of champions.

Throughout the season, the Thunder consistently proved themselves as the dominant force in the league, securing a remarkable total of 68 wins in the regular season. This success continued into the playoffs, where they garnered an additional 16 victories, culminating in lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy. This brought their total to an impressive 84 wins for the season, a feat only surpassed by teams featuring the legendary Michael Jordan.

Jordan’s Chicago Bulls achieved this milestone twice, during consecutive seasons no less. In the 1995-96 season, the Bulls captured the championship following 72 regular-season wins and 15 postseason victories, setting a record with 87 wins. The following season, 1996-97, saw them winning 69 games in the regular season and 15 in the playoffs, totaling 84 wins, a record that the Thunder has now matched.

It’s also notable that the Golden State Warriors set a league record by winning 73 games during the 2015-16 regular season and added 15 playoff wins, totaling 88. However, they did not secure the championship, thus they do not qualify for this prestigious list.

This achievement places the Thunder in a unique position, achieving what hasn’t been done in nearly three decades.
