The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the verge of being eliminated following their recent loss in Game 4 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, with hopes dwindling as they face a challenging 3-1 deficit in the series. Only 13 teams in NBA playoff history have successfully overcome such odds.

During the narrow 128-126 defeat, Timberwolves standout Anthony Edwards was significantly stifled by the Thunder’s intense defensive strategy. The Thunder’s tactical approach effectively cooled Edwards off, who managed just two shot attempts in the first half. The 23-year-old concluded the game with 16 points, shooting 5-for-13, and recorded as many turnovers as baskets made. This performance tied for his second-lowest field goal count in a playoff game throughout his career.
Post-Game 4, when queried about his performance against the Thunder’s robust defense, Edwards responded.
Edwards, maintaining his usual confidence, declined to admit he struggled, stating:
“I don’t see it as struggling… They implemented a strong game plan, forcing us to pass more. For me especially, they were really filling the gaps. I think I made the right choices all night, so I don’t feel like I struggled. I didn’t shoot enough to consider it a struggle,” said Edwards.
In the first half, the Thunder’s defense was particularly aggressive toward Edwards, often double-teaming him and collapsing quickly whenever he drove to the basket. This defensive focus on Edwards allowed his teammates more open shots, which seemed to play into the Thunder’s strategy of neutralizing Minnesota’s key offensive player.
As a result, teammates Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Jayden McDaniels ended up leading the team in scoring, while Edwards was frequently seen observing the play from the sidelines.
Looking ahead to Game 5, which is scheduled for Wednesday night at Paycom Center, Edwards may need to adopt a more assertive approach if the Timberwolves hope to avoid elimination.
