Netflix subscribers will soon revisit Hawkins for one last adventure. During its Tudum event, where the streaming platform announces upcoming shows and movies, the release date for the final season of Stranger Things was revealed. A significant new development for subscribers is that the series finale will be released in three parts.
The end-of-year season will reveal how our heroes deal with the encroaching Upside Down in the Indiana town: the first “volume” of season 5 will be available on November 26, 2025. For the remaining parts, viewers will have to wait until Christmas and then New Year’s to find out the fate Netflix has planned for the characters. Season 1 Recap of Stranger Things
The inaugural season of Stranger Things premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016. Consisting of eight episodes, it introduced the characters and main plot for the first time. Here’s a summary. In Hawkins, Indiana, in 1983, 12-year-old Will Byers disappears without a trace. His friends, as well as his family and the town’s police chief, Jim Hopper, investigate his disappearance. Concurrently, a young girl with supernatural powers, Eleven, is found by Lucas, Mike, and Dustin, Will’s friends. Simultaneously, a teenager, Barbara, is abducted by a mysterious creature, the Demogorgon, and ends up with Will in an alternate dimension, “the Upside Down”. The Hawkins National Laboratory conducts experiments (the MKULTRA project) to open a portal to this parallel dimension, which is filled with malevolent creatures. At the end of the season, Will is found alive and brought back to Hawkins, unlike Barbara. Eleven sacrifices herself to save Will and vanquish the monster. She disappears. Season 2 Recap of Stranger Things
The second season of Stranger Things was released on Netflix on October 27, 2017. This sequel includes nine episodes, the recap of which is outlined below. The plot continues in Hawkins, in 1984, a year after the events of season 1. Will is back, but he is haunted by visions of the Upside Down. At the same time, a new student, Max, arrives in Hawkins, while the town’s laboratory continues to conduct secret experiments on parallel dimensions and allows creatures from the Upside Down into our world. Mike has not heard from Eleven. However, the young girl is very much alive and has been taken in by Hopper, who hides her from the world to protect her. During season 2, Nancy breaks up with Steve and starts a relationship with Jonathan. Lucas grows closer to Max. Eleven eventually reunites with her friends after learning the truth about her past and her powers. The portal is finally closed, along with the Hawkins laboratory. Our heroes enjoy the summer carefree. But the rest is short-lived as Soviet scientists seek to open a portal to the Upside Down. The Mind Flayer and its creatures return and take possession of Billy, Max’s brother. He ultimately dies at the end of the season. During one of the battles, Eleven loses her powers, and Hopper sacrifices himself to close the portal opened by the Russian base. Once again, our heroes have managed to prevent the creatures of the Upside Down from spreading in Hawkins, but the sacrifice is substantial. The Byers family ends up taking in Eleven and leaves Hawkins to start a new life elsewhere. While everyone believes Hopper is dead, it is revealed that an American prisoner is held in a Russian prison in Kamchatka, where Demogorgons are kept in captivity. When Will the Final Season of Stranger Things Premiere?
Netflix has confirmed that the fifth season of Stranger Things will be its last, with its release scheduled in three stages: the first chapter will be online on November 26, 2025, the second on Christmas 2025, and the finale is planned for New Year’s 2025-2026 (the exact date is yet to be announced).
A time jump will occur between seasons 4 and 5 to more closely align with the actors’ real ages, who are now over 18 years old. Although season 5 of Stranger Things will be the final one, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed to the American media that they have ideas for a potential spin-off. The project is still pending approval from Netflix.
