The 31-year-old has a contract option worth $44.9 million for the upcoming season, which the team is currently not prepared to exercise. However, there is still a chance that the option could be activated before the new June 29 deadline, and both parties are open to discussing a contract extension in the meantime.
There is also a slight chance that VanVleet may no longer play for the Rockets moving forward.

After spending the initial seven years of his NBA career with the Toronto Raptors, VanVleet has been with the Houston Rockets for the past two seasons.
