The 2024-2025 NBA season proved to be a challenging period for the New Orleans Pelicans, culminating in one of their worst performance records in the team’s history. In response to this underwhelming season, the organization decided to part ways with David Griffin, who served as the executive vice president of basketball operations.

To fill the void left by Griffin, the Pelicans quickly appointed Louisiana’s own Joe Dumars. Dumars was brought on to spearhead much-needed changes, particularly focusing on enhancing a team roster that suffered a staggering 61 losses during the season.
As part of their strategic moves, the Pelicans traded away former all-star Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors before the trade deadline. With the team possibly heading towards a complete rebuild, Zion Williamson, a two-time All-Star, is rumored to be the next high-profile player on the trading block.
Should the Bulls take a chance and trade for Zion Williamson?@ZachLowe_NBA and @MichaelVPina discuss on the latest ‘Zach Lowe Show.’ pic.twitter.com/i2Qj47CMvV

NBA analyst Zach Lowe recently speculated about the potential for the Chicago Bulls to pursue Zion Williamson. This discussion comes after the Bulls’ season concluded with their third consecutive exit in the Play-In Tournament. The team has not secured a playoff series victory since the 2014-2015 season. Lowe, along with podcast guest Michael Pina, argued that the Bulls should consider taking a risk on Williamson.
Pina commented, “When you’re part of an organization that’s been struggling for over a decade, it makes sense to take a chance on someone with undeniable All-NBA potential when healthy. Williamson has demonstrated abilities on the court that few players have, making him a worthwhile gamble for the Bulls.”

Given Williamson’s extensive history of injuries, trading for him would indeed be a significant risk. He managed to play only 30 games this season and has appeared in 40 or fewer games in four out of his six seasons in the NBA. Nevertheless, his remarkable talent might tempt teams if the Pelicans decide to make him available for trade.
