Luka Doncic was sent off the court after receiving his second technical foul during a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on a Tuesday night. The ejection was contentious as it appeared he was cursing at a loud spectator rather than an official. However, it’s important to note that Doncic’s first technical came from using profanity towards an official, which may have led to some confusion.

Following the incident, there was a flurry of heated discussions about the perceived unfairness of the situation. ESPN NBA analyst Brian Windhorst provided a more sober perspective on the show Get Up, pointing out that although the ejection seemed unjust, Doncic was partly to blame for behaving in a manner that had already been flagged earlier in the game.

“The issue here is not just the incident itself,” Windhorst stated. “The ejection was also because he had already been penalized for swearing at the very same official earlier. Given that Doncic frequently directs profanity towards officials, it’s understandable why they might assume he was doing so again.”

“This incident probably had a significant impact on the outcome of the game,” Windhorst added. “While it may have been a misunderstanding, Doncic’s habitual behavior has made such situations more likely. He has a history of such incidents and it is often he who is to blame. The Lakers justifiably feel aggrieved, but much of the responsibility rests with Luka.”

All things considered, the situation seems to be a complex one. Although not entirely just, there’s a straightforward way to avoid technical fouls, but it’s clear that Doncic chooses not to follow that path. As a result, misunderstandings can and do occur.
