During the 2024 Paris Olympics, French basketball player Guerschon Yabusele captured the attention of many with his impressive performances against NBA players.

At 28 years old, Yabusele averaged 14 points in six games at the Olympics, gaining widespread attention for his sensational dunk on LeBron James. His Olympic showcase has drawn interest from NBA teams, with Shams Charania of The Athletic reporting that the Philadelphia 76ers are in “serious talks” to sign him.

Yabusele is currently under contract with Real Madrid in Spain. Charania has mentioned that Yabusele’s contract includes a buyout clause valued at $2.5 million.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has stated that Yabusele is poised to agree to a one-year contract with the Sixers worth $2.1 million, marking his return to the NBA since his last appearance in 2019.

Previously, Yabusele was selected by the Boston Celtics as the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. His tenure in the NBA lasted just two seasons during which he played 74 games and averaged 2.3 points before moving to play internationally.

Standing at 6 feet 8 inches and weighing over 250 pounds, Yabusele has the physicality required for an NBA forward. His ability to score effectively was on full display during the Olympics.

While competing for a silver medal with France, Yabusele playfully suggested to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe that the Celtics should consider re-signing him. However, it appears he is now close to joining one of their key rivals, the Philadelphia 76ers.
