Speaking with ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk before the game, Curry expressed that reaching 4,000 career three-pointers marked a significant personal milestone. “It’s a figure I never really contemplated, especially back when the record was 2,974, which itself was an important number to me at the time,” he explained.
He added, “To extend the record by so much was something I could never have imagined.”
Curry entered the game just two three-pointers shy of the milestone, starting the match with 3,998. “It was an odd evening because we all knew I needed just two more,” Curry recounted, as reported by ESPN. “I hit my first in the opening quarter following a fantastic pass from Jonathan Kuminga during a fast break. Throughout the game, Sacramento employed a very targeted defensive strategy against me, making clean shots difficult to come by.”
Despite the challenges, Curry achieved the milestone.
Reflecting on the achievement postgame, Curry described the moment as profoundly special, particularly appreciative that it occurred in San Francisco. “Breaking the 2,974 threes record in New York was memorable due to the incredible atmosphere at Madison Square Garden, but achieving this in front of our home crowd was even more meaningful,” he shared with Allie LaForce while still on the court, noting the sparse shooting opportunities but energized by the supportive crowd when he finally hit the mark in the third quarter.
When asked about potentially reaching 5,000 career three-pointers, Curry mentioned he is currently just enjoying the moment, “2,974 seems like it was ages ago,” he commented. “Now being here with this new milestone feels fantastic. Who knows what the future holds.”
