Shocking News: ‘Around the Horn’ Abruptly Cancelled – Find Out Why!

1. It’s uncommon for television networks, sports-related or not, to discontinue popular programs.

Nonetheless, ESPN declared on Tuesday that Around the Horn would broadcast its final episode on Friday, May 23. Subsequently, a version of SportsCenter will occupy the 5 p.m. ET slot previously held by Around the Horn.

Around the Horn  has enjoyed an impressive tenure of over twenty years. Achieving such longevity in the media industry is exceptionally rare, and we plan to honor the show’s significant achievements before its conclusion in May,” said David Roberts, ESPN’s executive vice president of sports news and entertainment, in a press statement. “We owe a great deal of gratitude not only to Tony [Reali] and the team of on-air talent but also to the production staff, particularly Erik Rydholm and Aaron Solomon, whose efforts have been crucial to the sustained success of ATH from the start.”

So, what’s the rationale behind the cancellation of ATH? ESPN has remained rather secretive about the exact reasons. Although ATH’s viewership significantly trails that of Pardon the Interruption, which follows ATH, it aligns similarly with that of Get Up and First Take.

It has been hinted by sources that ESPN is exploring “a more contemporary concept” and aiming for “something different.”

Regarding what’s next for Tony Reali after the final episode of ATH in late May, it is reported that “no decisions have been finalized.”

While Reali’s future plans are unclear, it would certainly be a significant loss for ESPN if they do not secure a prominent role for him going forward. Known for his composed and adept hosting, Reali stands out in the often loud and argumentative sphere of debate shows due to his distinct personality without being overly dramatic or confrontational.

3. Until coming across this tweet, I was unaware of Ohio senator Bill DeMora. While I’m unfamiliar with his positions on other matters, his stance on this specific issue is commendable.

4. The only issue with the spontaneous duet between Celine Dion and ESPN’s Marty Smith during Tuesday’s TGL broadcast was that it was far too brief.

5. Is there a more desirable job than hosting Wheel of Fortune? Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest (previously Pat Sajak) earn an impressive salary, working only 34 days out of the year. This schedule provides them with 331 days of leisure annually.
