Film enthusiasts will recall Luchino Visconti’s 1963 movie featuring Alain Delon. Netflix is now taking inspiration from Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa’s revered novel “The Leopard” to create a series, hitting the platform on March 5, 2025. Created by Richard Warlow and Benji Walters, the series delves into the tumults of 1860s Italy seen through the lens of the Sicilian aristocracy.
The production chose a mix of English and Italian actors for the cast. Kim Rossi Stuart, known for his role as Il Freddo in “Romazo Criminale” and the lead in “Libero,” a film he also wrote and directed, stars in the series. Deva Cassel, daughter of Vincent Cassel and Monica Belucci, makes her series debut as Angelica Dedara, a role originally played by Claudia Cardinale in 1963. Saul Nanni steps into the shoes of Tancredi Falconeri, a character previously portrayed by Alain Delon sixty years ago.
