LeBron James, often ranked among the top two NBA players of all time and by some as the greatest, has an illustrious career marked by four NBA championships and MVP titles. Typically mentioned in the same breath as Michael Jordan and other legends, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, however, considers James’s talents to be the most underappreciated in the league.

“My choice is LeBron James,” said Wembanyama in an interview with NBA TV. “To be underrated is to not be valued properly. And I believe LeBron is underrated.”

Wembanyama didn’t provide further details in the clip, but it’s clear that despite the widespread acclaim James has received for his significant achievements and skills, Wembanyama feels James hasn’t been fully recognized for his contributions.

James’s career is filled with record-breaking moments, such as becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and holding the record for the most All-Star Game appearances. His durability is also notable, maintaining All-Star level play into his 40s. This season, his 22nd, he’s averaging 24.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game, making him fourth in the league for assists.

Despite his prolonged excellence, it could be argued that his consistent high-level performance has led to an underappreciation of his unique achievements. As James approaches what could be the twilight years of his career, there’s limited time left to appreciate his on-court prowess while he is still active.
