A significant chapter in Milwaukee’s basketball history closed at the trade deadline, with the Bucks’ decision to send Khris Middleton to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kyle Kuzma. Middleton, who was with the Bucks for 12 seasons—almost his entire career—earned three All-Star selections and played a pivotal role in winning the NBA title in 2021.

Jon Horst, the General Manager of the Milwaukee Bucks, expressed that trading Middleton was the “most difficult transaction” he has ever managed.
“Khris and his family are very close to me personally,” Horst told the media on Monday. “In my home, I probably own more Middleton jerseys than any other, and I will continue to do so.”

This sentiment is shared by Bucks fans and teammates, including his longtime co-star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Middleton shared a touching farewell message to Milwaukee on his X account Friday.
“From the first day I arrived in this city, you welcomed me warmly,” Middleton said. “We went through the rebuilding years together, rose to become a championship contender, and achieved the unforgettable 2021 NBA championship. Those moments, from the clutch shots to the dramatic wins and ultimately bringing the Larry O’Brien Trophy back home after 50 years, will forever be etched in my memory.”

Over his tenure with the Bucks, Middleton averaged 17.1 points per game across 735 games. This season, he scored an average of 12.6 points per game in 23 appearances—his lowest since the 2013-14 season, his first in Milwaukee. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on both ankles during the offseason, as injuries have impacted his performance in the seasons following the Bucks’ championship win. Middleton’s departure marks the end of an era, but he leaves as a beloved figure, worthy of one day having his jersey retired in Milwaukee.
“This is not goodbye—it’s a heartfelt thank you,” he concluded in his note.
