The Dallas Mavericks, having just engaged in the season’s most significant NBA trade, might not be finished making moves. Just a few days after the shocking trade that saw Luka Dončić head to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, The Athletic has reported that the Mavericks are targeting another high-profile player to team up with Davis and Kyrie Irving.

“Following their blockbuster trade of Luka Dončić for Anthony Davis, which reverberated around the league, the Dallas Mavericks now aspire to bring in Durant to join the duo of Davis and Irving,” according to the report by Sam Amick, David Aldridge, and Anthony Slater.
The Mavericks aim to form a formidable trio in Dallas by acquiring Kevin Durant, as per a new report from The Athletic. However, attracting a player of Durant’s stature is easier said than done, especially with several other teams also interested in him.
Nico Harrison, the Mavericks’ general manager and former Nike executive, reportedly prefers players he has previously worked with during his tenure at Nike, including Durant and LeBron James, who might leave the Lakers after the season by declining his player option.
Should the Phoenix Suns, currently tenth in the Western Conference despite having stars like Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, decide to entertain offers for KD, they will find several potential suitors. The Golden State Warriors, where Durant previously won two NBA championships, are mentioned as a possible destination, with The Athletic also naming the Houston Rockets as interested parties.
Sports Illustrated‘s Chris Mannix has indicated that Durant is unlikely to play in the upcoming game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, just before the trade deadline at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Bringing Durant on board could potentially offset some of the disappointment from losing Dončić. However, Harrison will need to work hard to win over many fans who are still baffled by the decision to trade away a 25-year-old player of MVP caliber.
