Following a close 99-98 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, the Memphis Grizzlies have advanced to the Summer League final. Scotty Pippen Jr., with his exceptional performance, significantly contributed to this win, recording only the sixth triple-double in the history of the Summer League.

In the semifinal clash, Pippen Jr. racked up 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. While his overall field goal percentage was 5-of-15, he managed to drain 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. The 23-year-old player orchestrated the game brilliantly, helping Memphis to withstand a late surge from the Clippers. Jaylen Wells topped the scoring chart for Memphis with 28 points, with six of them being three-pointers, whereas G.G. Jackson added 20 points. Grizzlies’ newbies, Zach Edey and Cam Spencer, did not participate in the game.

The young talent, who is the progeny of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, has been with the NBA since he went undrafted from Vanderbilt in 2022. He spent the majority of the 2022-23 season and some part of the 2023-24 season with the South Bay Lakers, the G-League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers. In January 2024, he was signed by the Grizzlies under a two-way contract.

During the 2023-24 NBA season, Pippen Jr. featured in 21 games for the Grizzlies, starting in 16 of them. He recorded an average of 12.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.7 steals in 25.1 minutes per game, and had a three-point shooting percentage of 41.7%.

Pippen Jr.’s stellar performance in the Summer League and his strong finish to the season have solidified his position in the Grizzlies. It’s safe to say that he features prominently in their future schemes.
