Following his impressive performance where he scored 35 points and secured 18 rebounds in the San Antonio Spurs’ narrow 113-110 victory against the Denver Nuggets, Victor Wembanyama shared his pick for this season’s NBA MVP.

In the same game, Nikola Jokić, a three-time MVP, racked up 41 points, 18 rebounds, and nine assists, nearly achieving a triple-double in the disappointing loss. Post-match, the two basketball giants exchanged compliments, discussing each other’s performance.

“He’s a multiple time MVP and likely to be MVP again,” Wembanyama stated about Jokić in a postgame interview. “It’s incredible to compete against such talent; we’re all gaining a lot from it.”

So far this season, over 30 games, Jokić has been performing exceptionally, averaging nearly a triple-double with 31 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 9.7 assists per game, marking the highest scoring average of his career. He was last season’s MVP and also claimed the title in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. Last year, he finished second in the MVP voting, just behind Joel Embiid.

Jokić also praised Wembanyama after their recent matchup, noting his improvement over the past year.

“He’s advanced from last year and will only continue to get better,” Jokić commented on Wembanyama’s progress. “He’s a unique player, truly one of a kind, and he’ll definitely be remembered forever.”

It won’t be surprising if Wembanyama enters the MVP discussions soon. The victory against the Nuggets marks his 100th game and in his second season, he’s already leading the NBA with averages of 25.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks per game. His performance not only highlights his skills but also his potential MVP candidacy in the future.
