In a recent game on Wednesday, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell nearly achieved perfection in their 114–106 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers—though he missed just one target.

Mitchell contributed 23 points, grabbed 13 boards, and recorded nine assists, falling just short of earning his first career triple-double. In the game’s final moments, with the Cavaliers ahead by seven, Mitchell made a bold drive to the hoop, only to unexpectedly pass the ball to Evan Mobley, who was open in the corner.

During his postgame interview, Mitchell shared a light-hearted apology to the fans for his obvious attempt to pad his stats.

“To all the Cavs fans, I apologize. I should have sealed the win sooner,” Mitchell admitted. “It was definitely a selfish act, I can’t deny that. It almost cost us the game, and it was my first time in that position. It won’t happen again, and I’m really sorry about that.”

Here’s a video, shared by Tony Pesta of Fear the Sword, showcasing Mitchell’s controversial pass.

Teammate Darius Garland couldn’t help but laugh when discussing Mitchell’s last-minute drive for a triple-double.

The Cavaliers have kicked off the season with a record of 13-0, marking the best start in the NBA in the past nine years.
