I saw this linked somewhere as us “having a laugh at the Knicks' expense”…..

If it wasn't clear, the cartoon is just asking whether Morey will trade the picks away (hence, whether they should unpack or stay in Houston.)

Not sure how it was interpreted as making fun of the Knicks…

i agree, slightly. i say it should be there but not in full colour as is does detract from the cartoon. maybe a watermark of the logo would be better suited.

Kevman, I agree with you. I doubt Knicks will make it to playoffs without making another trade. I think Cleveland will surprise folks and make playoffs. Washington might surprise also, once Arena figures out how to play at the 2 and focus on scoring.

…apologies for sounding kinda douchey, but I think for compositions sake, visually, putting that red94 logo on the cartoon really just kills it and seems totally unnecessary and kind of mean to the poor woman who drew it… I just picture her looking at it and thinking… god that just doesn't look right…

KnicksChris, If not mistaken, the more significant changes for New York this year were Amare in Lee out, Felton in Duhon out, Randolph in Harrington out, some less significant changes included Azabukie/Turiaf in for Jefferies/McGrady.

I agree it's a better team, especially with Felton/Amare running pick and roll, but I am not sure how much better. Lee was not as explosive as Amare but rebounds better and plays harder. Further more, I think East got better in the lower seeds. Baring injury, 6 teams are definitely in (Heat, Magic, Celtics, Hawks, Chicago, Bucks), that leaves 2 spots to be duked out between 5 or 6 teams(Knicks, Nets, Cavaliers, Pacers, maybe Bobcats & Wizards) . I'm not sure it's going to be so easy for Knicks. My guess is they win 10 more games from last year.

The Knicks pulled off 29 wins last year without a solid team and moving pieces. They now have a respectable starting line-up and a good bench.

Felton, Azabukie, Gallinari, Amare, Turiaf

Chandler, Randolph, Mozgov, Toney Douglas, Walker

The teams is infinitely better than last years mish mosh debable of a team. 11 more wins will get them to the playoffs, easily. I think they team they put together can do that without a hitch.

i dont think so zen. sure, if cp3 or melo end up in ny, they're probably making the playoffs... but amare with no help? i strongly doubt it. he's too lazy and he cant carry a team on his back. amare needs to be the second best on his team in order to bring out the best in him. hes talented, but he's not a leader. too many holes in the team. i do see your point, though, as far as the polarity in the east.

i think most people would agree on the top 6 teams in the east, so it comes down to just a few things:
- will the knicks be better or just different? maybe a little better, but not much
- how will cleveland fare without lebron? i think surprisingly well. i expect a record close to .500; call me crazy, but their roster isn't bad and half of their competition is. look for mo williams to step up. jamario moon may also develop nicely into a starting role.
- can the pacers get over the hump with darren collison? when he pairs up with granger, i think wins will come much easier. granger's experience in fiba doesnt hurt either.
- can the wizards get back to work with arenas' suspension up? yes. add john wall, and youve got a potentially explosive backcourt. josh howard is no slouch either, and the depth at 1-4 spots are pretty solid.

1-6= miami, orlando, chicago, boston, milwaukee, atlanta
7-10= washington, indiana, cleveland, detroit
11-14= new york, philadephia, toronto, new jersey

If Carmelo goes to the Knicks, the picks' value will certainly drop. A Carmelo-Amare pairing with passable role players is good enough to grab the 8th seed in the East (usually a losing record is in that spot) and take them out of the lottery. The same goes for Chris Paul or any top-10 or top-20 player that might head in that direction. The bottom half of the East is usually pretty bad, so escaping the lottery looks pretty possible for NY even with their current roster.
