What a clever way to leverage Toronto's position to extract maximum talent from a Dallas, a Houston, or any other team not on the "list". When it comes to big money, I won't believe a word anyone says until I see signatures on the dotted line.......

With the upcoming draft, minor tweaking of our assets, and Yao returning to the lineup; there is no need for rushing into anything. Last year's lineup produced a .500 season. With very minor improvements, we're capable of reaching the playoffs. A major acquisition anytime during the year could easily put us into championship consideration. Notice that Bosh is not mentioned because he is far from the only way to get where we want to go.

I vote for patience, and making opportunistic deals as they may arise. That is how you build a winning team. One or two big names won't cut it in today's highly competitive NBA.

...and yes, the Bulls can certainly do a sign-and-trade. In fact, that is our intention. (The Rockets are my "other" team; don't act like you all don't have one, too.)

I agree with the sentiment that this post is hardly definitive that Bosh has no interest in Houston. Even if the story is true, I would imagine that Bosh changes his mind several times over the next six weeks. I'd love to have Bosh as a Rocket, but regardless if he comes or not, the Rockets will be much improved, fun to watch, and a real playoff contender. And waiting is not a bad strategy either--teams will be spending like mad this summer, overpaying for talent and eating up valuable cap space. With lots of chips to trade, the Rockets will be in great position when some team decides its time to jettison its star and start over. Bosh would be great, but he is not make or break in the same way LeBron is for NY.

You raise a good point, but why do you say that Miami and Chicago could not do sign and trades? Because of their cap space, they would not need to match salaries like the Rockets would. They could just offer one player, say Beasley or Taj Gibson, to entice the Raptors, and then absorb all of Bosh's salary.

I find this list highly suspect. Of those teams, realistically only the Lakers can really do a sign-and-trade. The Heat and Knicks don’t have any assets to do a sign-and-trade..and that was by design, as they were intent on signing max guys outright. And Chicago has a depleted enough roster as it is, if they had to give up MORE players to make a run at Bosh, they’d have no one left to play with him.

So if Bosh really was intent on doing a sign-and-trade (and getting the extra yr and $), why would he pick 4 of 5 teams that realistically could not even do one? I realize he could sign outright with any of those teams, but he wouldn’t need the Raptors involvement to do that. I think this is just a smoke screen from the Raptors FO to try to cut down interest in Bosh ahead of free agency, and hopefully dissuade enough teams from pursuing him that they improve their chances of keeping him. Either that or Bosh’s agent is utterly incompetent.

I agree with you and this guy who wrote a piece on the same topic (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/395177-chris...)
All is not lost. With the pieces we have, we can either move forward with what we've got and have a pretty good future or try and make a move and potentially land a star with the assets we have.

I think we are far from out of it. Without being given a reason as to why he would eliminate us (or anyone else for that matter), I think we have to at least give Morey a chance to talk with him and his agent before we can give up on it. There's nothing that says he can't add or remove teams from his list once free agency starts.

This is also a source. It's not Bosh. I don't think I ever thought as strongly as you that he was coming, but I'm also not going to lose all hope that he is, mostly due to the general competence of our front office.

Next time around, don't ever let me get tunnel-vision over one player. This won't be good for my health.
