On Scola and a potential sign&trade

Again, from Coon:

One complication with sign-and-trade deals is that the signed player can immediately become a BYC player (see question number 75 for more information on BYC), so the player’s BYC value must be used when determining whether the trade is allowed.

I wanted to make this clarification because I had many times, when discussing potential packages for Bosh, mentioned a re-signed Scola as a potential piece to help make up the needed ~$13million. Because his raise will most likely be greater than 20% of his current contract, Luis will gain BYC status, making his trade value only 50% of the first year salary of his new contract.  Thus, it would not be as simple as merely re-signing him at $8million and needing to only come up with the remaining $5million on a Bosh deal.  Note that this restriction would not apply to the Knicks’ David Lee as the Knicks are under the cap.
