Houston Rockets 96, San Antonio Spurs 95: James Harden hits a game winner.

Yeah, if Duncan closed out on that shot completely then that's an easy bucket for Asik cutting to the basket. If Ginobili sagged in too much to help on Asik then that's a wide open shot for Parsons.

It was a good play, but in Jeremy Lin's post-game interview, he also said how in the huddle they were essentially saying, "Give the ball to Harden! Let him work his magic." lol
Hope that was not the extent of McHale's coaching as well Although it worked out for the best, I don't think I'd like Harden taking a shot like that again if I had the choice lol.

I still don't like him, but mchale is displaying some growth as a coach. that was the best defensive game of the year hands down. that's the 1st time we tryed something other than trying to outscore the opposition. now lets see if it was a fluke or the real deal.

From what I can tell it was more than a Harden ISO (I wasn't able to watch the game live). Having Asik roll towards the basket after the high screen gave Harden an option and forced the defense to make a decision (it also pulled Duncan out of optimal position to defend). Harden could have dropped the ball off to Asik for a dunk had Duncan contested his shot and not dropped back. Instead, he basically had an uncontested free throw which he is pretty good at making.
I have no doubt about Lin's quote, but that play looked like it was drawn up--good job coaches....and good job Harden.

I think it was definitely drawn up. Asik had a purpose after the handoff - also he would have gotten that board if Harden would have missed. Watching the replay - that was a damn tough shot he made - off balance and was pushed in the back.
BTW Jeff Van Gundy on 610 am this afternoon was giving big props to McHale working with this fluid roster.

I mean, I think Asik's going to roll to the basket from that position no matter what, just because there isn't much sense in doing anything else w/ 9 sec left on the clock. But of course, that is because he is IN that position in the first place, which I thought was a great place to be in. I could totally see that being a drawn up play, and indeed that high screen and subsequent options were beautifully done.
lol iunno if that shot was as easy as a FT for Harden That off balance shot looked uuuuuggggllyyy. I was very surprised (but elated!) that it went in.

On the broadcast the announcing crew actually predicted the play well ahead of time (surprisingly insightful of them! Maybe I should revise my rather low opinion of them up slightly). As soon as they saw Harden with the ball in his hands one of them (maybe Drexler?) said he was expecting the pass to Asik with the handoff/screen action to get Harden free from his defender, and lo-and-behold that's exactly what happened! I'd imagine if the guys in the booth could call it, then Popovich must have known what was coming too - Asik's roll to the hoop generated just enough indecision from Duncan to make it work despite that.

Well, I think he may have exaggerated his movement on that shot trying to also draw a foul...who knows.
I think we are starting to see McHale's overall effect on this team. He's a bad dude....he doesn't walk with a pimp-limp for nuthin
slow down there don't get the horses in a full gallop yet

We're just trotting right now, but you gotta admit he has answered every complaint you had--motivation, defense, end of game play calling, developing the young'uns...now they just have to keep it up and build on it.
just for you JG I will give him a little love right here YES there has been improvement. i'm not going to nitpick areas because that may get us at odds again

Just as a few rotation mistakes should not damn McHale, a few good moves shouldn't entirely change anyone's opinion of him either haha. Waiting to see if he's going to be Linconsistent or not lol.
Either way, I don't see much of a reason to switch him out for anyone else before his contract expires.
