I heard this yesterday too....I love this idea!

3 on 3 would be a lot of fun to watch, even if its restricted from havng players on the 5 on 5 tourney. Maybe this is how they try to initiate a 23 and under movement? Id much rather it be for 3/3 games than changing the current format.

My team would consist of Kyrie Irving, Demarcus Cousins, and MKG(if he turns out as expected).

And of course if it could be any 3...Lebron, KD, and Dwight.

hmmmmmm intriguing idea. id would definitely be for it in the all-star game. not sure how i feel about it for the olympics, but im not a huge fan of the olympics as it is. this year i watched most of team usa basketball, a lot of volleyball, and caught some usain bolt. thats about it.

i guarantee if stern implemented it, it would include a wnba player. :(

I didn't watch any TEAM USA basketball. In fact, I hoped that they would lose. Does that make me unpatriotic? I wonder if there were a lot of NBA fans who cheered against TEAM USA because they don't like Kobe, LeBron, etc. The whole city of Cleveland, I bet, would have been delighted to see LeBron lead a silver-medal team...

I agree it would be a better All-Star game event than Olympic event, but I can see appeal in having it in the Olympics getting to see up and comers from across the world. Maybe if it's an All-Star event it can take over for the dunk contest...It hasn't been exciting in several years. "who/what can I jump over to win" seems to be the mantra for the Dunk contest and it's getting old.

There is no reason not to root for team USA (unless you are from a different country).... A 3 on 3 event sounds pretty awesome

I'd love it at the All-Star weekend (Charlotte and Sacramento might have more chances to win some games, lol), but not at the Olympics...it would be an easy gold medal for the U.S.....come on, it's street basketball and no-one beats americans....it's exciting as it's new, but it would be boring in the outcome....do you see Spain closer than it was 5 on 5?

I'd love to see this at the Olympics, especially if we can field more than one team. The versatility of guys like Melo, Lebron and Durant is invaluable in this format. A lot would depend on the rules though. If it is a half court game Spain could just set the Gasol brothers down low and have Rubio lob it up. The make-up of these teams would be really interesting.

Simmons had a similar idea in his latest mailbag, but it was 2-on-2. Not sure if it's Olympic worthy, but it's interesting.

And why use NBA players for this? Just go to Rucker Park and pick out some guys - any 2 will do.

What's the Lithuanian equivalent of Rucker Park? :)
