[nbc] Carlos Delfino is now a Rocket

So we have signed Carlos Delfino now. We had offered him a contract a week or two ago and he had said he was waiting until the Olympics were over. Now that they're over, we have another wing.
The deal is for two years, second year being a team option.
Certainly this means KMart is being moved, soon? It makes zero sense to have Martin, Lamb, AND Delfino. Anyways, I havent seen a single reader here that seemed to want this move to be made, but oh well it's been done anyways.
Now what?

They get rid of Scola and then sign Delfino? WTF for?
Let the young guys play...
I get more and more convinced that Morey is poor at overall roster building.

I listened to Morey's interview on 790 the other day and he mentioned the Rockets planned to play an uptempo style this year. So even if we end up losing more games than usual this year, it sounds like they'll at least be fun to watch.

It's also insurance against a shortage of players at Small Forward. Until I see otherwise, I don't see White or Jones being able to play more than the odd minute here or there at the 3. So that means our wing rotation consisted of Martin, Lamb, Parsons and Morris and now we're adding Delfino. That means injuries aren't going to be a problem, and Morey will be able to swing deals mid-season without having to figure out how our wing-depth is going to play out.
Another plus is that it will let Lamb play with a veteran presence more. Martin/Lamb is not a good wing pairing as they are too similar, but Lamb/Delfino can work.
I can understand why someone might be opposed to this deal, but I think it makes sense if you're trying to build a team that's going to grow this year. I don't want to see Wizards-like dysfunction setting in because the lockerroom is young and devoid of experience. Hopefully with this that won't happen.

Alas, there's always the fear that Alexander saw so much potential in our youth that he told Morey to pick up a couple pieces and see if we can win some games and maybe limp into the playoffs. That would be disastrous. Delfino, if used incorrectly may just add up to too many wins this season.

As far as that mentor stuff , I dont believe Delfino can be that guy . I rather have K-Mart be the guy that mentors Jeremy Lamb because hes had a much more successful career than Delfino and has a higher skillset than Delfino as well . Martin and Lamb almost play exactly alike except Lamb can play better defense , is more athletic , and is more explosive . Both of them together would be a great shooting guard duo to watch and Lamb ( IMO ) can learn more from Martin than Delfino .
Btw I think I am the only one here that believes Kevin Martin can score 20 points every single night if he wanted to , and I think I'm the only one that likes him lol . Because most of you guys seem like you hate him and cant stand him , with all the negative comments I have read about him from here .

Delfino had a good Olympics, but overall he is a crap player, he is an average shooter, a terrible defender and he is 100% a chucker, he plays out of control far too often, he is just not good.
The reeks of Olympic hangover, where the Rockets signed him to get some of the hispanic fans to come to the games.
It makes no sense to have him on this team, he is not a good enough player to mentor anyone, and he takes time away from the young guys.
I have no faith in Morey, I think he is the Spaghetti man, he just tosses the noodles against the wall to see which ones stick.

To me, Martin scores points, and that's all. He used to be able to rely on getting to the line by initiating contact, but the refs stopped calling offensively initiated fouls last year, thus rendering Martin even less effective. His defense is beyond deplorable, he's too wiry and frail to fight through screens or pick up on the roll guy, and his defensive inefficiencies make his offensive performances a wash. I wouldn't want Martin teaching his flopping habits, nor his only defensive attribute which is committing to a steal, which hurts us more often than not. I'd rather have someone who may be less talented (generally), but more solid fundamentally mentoring the youth, and just plain "more solid" period.

Delfino is a 40% CAREER shooter......he is just not very good.
He is the definition of a guy that can sometimes get hot, but more often than not misses.
He is an average 3pt shooter too...36%....
WTF - I really don't get this signing at all.
Not a mentor player, not very good, no need.
Seems like Lin 2.0....keep some fans in the seats Daryl while we rebuild.
WEAKSAUCE !

I agree Martin can be a 20ppg scorer. The lack of much else is also true, but it's an interesting question whether his scoring on a team that desperately needs that in the half-court out-weighs his other short-comings.
The big problem w/Martin is that his ship has sailed w/the Rockets. He was brought in to be Yao's gunner, the guy who would nail the open looks Yao would generate. His assortment of fakes would draw fouls from players rushing to close out and combined w/Yao's ability to draw fouls would enable the Rockets to hammer foes into submission at the FT line.
Now,there's no Yao,no low-post scorer who has to be doubled,no elite wing who sucks in the defense. Martin's skill-set is essentially negated.
In the Rockets high weave offense,Martin's lack of good handles means he doesn't suit the offense being run.
He just doesn't fit what the team is going to run on offense. Oh,he'd still get points, because he's too good a scorer, but it'd be like using a Corvette to go grocery shopping.
What everyone who doesn't want Martin traded fails to realize is this is THE LAST YEAR of his contract.
There is zero chance of the Rockets wanting to re-sign Martin, just as there's zero chance Martin would want to re-sign.(Aleady rumors have been spreading that Minn didn't trade for him because they know they can sign him as a FA next yr.)
Should the Rockets keep a player this yr that they know isn't in their plans?
Esp when they have his heir apparent on the roster?
Playing Martin the significant minutes he should get will certainly limit the minutes Lamb would get.
Martin's time has come and gone, and the sooner the Rockets move him,the better for all concerned.
As to Delfino,he's a guy who has both started and come off the bench.
He starts at SG the beginning of Season while Lamb adjusts to NBA,and esp the NBA 3pt line.
Then come Feb after Lamb has shown he's made it past the rookie wall,Delfino can transition to 6th man while Lamb starts.
As to the impact of Delfino on wins and losses, let's face it Charlotte,Orlando,Cleveland will be dreadful. Someone else is going to fall apart. It's unlikely the Rockets will be a top 5 Lottery team so what's really the difference in drafting say 7 or 14 in a weak Draft? Esp when the Rockets have other picks to use to move up?
