@  redfaithful : (08 June 2015 - 11:21 AM) Basketball axiom: a David Blatt team at the season's end will not let anyone score easily
@  SadLakerFan : (01 June 2015 - 04:26 AM) I want to go to Game 2 of the Finals, but prices are really high. There are 2700 tickets (out of a capacity of 19,500) up for resale - that's a ton. Hoping prices drop a bit.
@  kidnextdoor : (01 June 2015 - 02:58 AM) I read somewhere if Atlanta get a max free agent they will have to let Millsap go.
@  Losthief : (31 May 2015 - 03:53 PM) Paul millsap is a free agent, i'd want him more than Love, but would he leave atlanta?
@  JY86er : (30 May 2015 - 12:37 AM) I wouldnt want him. Not after a Jeff Spicoli looking sorry guy was able to pull his arm outta socket.
@  majik19 : (28 May 2015 - 08:05 PM) Offensively, I have no doubt that Love would be a great fit. Defensively... not so much. I think it's more important to upgrade the 1 than the 4 this offseason, assuming D-mo is healthy.
@  Mario Peña : (28 May 2015 - 07:08 PM) I can't make it but I thought I'd post that for the Houston guys.
@  Mario Peña : (28 May 2015 - 07:07 PM) From the Red Rowdies: Do you want to greet the Rockets today as they arrive back? Go to 8402 Nelms Houston, TX 77061 around 3:30 ‪#‎Support‬
@  Cooper : (28 May 2015 - 06:15 PM) would have to strip the roster to get him, let him lose in la with 40 yr old kobe and crazy rondo.
@  thenit : (28 May 2015 - 06:08 PM) Love interested in Lakers, Rockets and Celtics. Anyone here who wants him ?
@  majik19 : (28 May 2015 - 04:25 PM) It was a great year, and I think Harden will look at Game 2 and Game 5 and strive to be better. If he had gone out on a high note (say Game 4), there would probably be less motivation. But not with a game like that.
@  SadLakerFan : (28 May 2015 - 10:01 AM) Great season. Harden looked perplexed out there, almost like Lebron in 2010. He'll figure things out.
@  Johnny Rocket : (28 May 2015 - 08:31 AM) Thanks, Rox--great season!
@  RudyT1995 : (28 May 2015 - 05:43 AM) Wonder what he'll do this year to make Cuban look like a fool.
@  RudyT1995 : (28 May 2015 - 05:43 AM) Interesting off-season coming up. Time for Morey to work his magic.
@  Mario Peña : (28 May 2015 - 04:57 AM) What a year! It's a great time to be a Rockets fan!
@  miketheodio : (28 May 2015 - 04:06 AM) many records were broken this series
@  Willk : (28 May 2015 - 04:03 AM) Morey's time not team
@  Willk : (28 May 2015 - 04:02 AM) it is now Morey's team
@  Willk : (28 May 2015 - 04:02 AM) the future is bright

New post: The ever-evolving James Harden

That's pretty frightening.  I was expecting the figure to be significantly lower, but this seems to be a case where the data backs up the eye test.  My guess going in was that the Harden stepback was a creature similar in nature to the Kobe game-winner.  We think he's making most of them because when it happens, we remember it.  But this is really happening.  If they're tracking this accurately (I don't have time to go through all 124 logged attempts), Harden is actually hitting the majority of these types of shots.  That's absolutely incredible.  It's almost mind-boggling.  This means James is connecting on the majority of his attempts at the most difficult shot in all of basketball.

We all saw what he did last night to Ricky Rubio, putting the Spanish guard on skates with a vicious jab step.  It makes one wonder what the future holds for Harden.  I've noted numerous times that his game should age like fine wine, over time.  He's basically a case study in building from the ground up, from a solid foundation.  In his early twenties, he mastered the basics of the game--at even a historic level--doing his damage at the rim and from deep.  Now, as he ages, he's fine tuning the details, maximizing upon the areas defenders had been giving him.  Most of the chatter has surrounded his commitment on the defensive end this season.  But if you've been watching closely, Harden's offensive skill level has dramatically improved.  Obviously the stepback is there, as I noted above.  But the ball-handling is also more deft, with the Beard now more often going to a Tim-Hardaway double cross between the legs as his move of choice.  In recent weeks, I've also seen Harden stepback more and more to his dominant hand, arguably the hardest thing in all of basketball to do.  (Harden used to only stepback to his right, a much more comfortable motion because the ball can simply be brought back over to the shooting hand).

It's exciting to wonder what can come next if he stays healthy.  Harden's game isn't reliant upon athleticism, but rather strength and skill, two traits which don't deteriorate.  To reiterate my thoughts from the past, I'd like to see him come back with a postup game, because I do think that could be very effective from the few times I've seen him do it.  Operating from down low could also take some tread off the tires and help the Beard conserve energy.

James has become such a good one-on-one player that it makes me wonder how this will play out in the postseason.  Most people would agree that in today's age, with the sophistication of NBA defenses, one can't win a title playing isolation basketball.  We just saw the Spurs crush the Miami Heat playing a free-flowing team game.  The Rockets surely won't change things in the postseason.  And how could they?  They can't take the ball out of Harden's hands the way he's been going.  But if it doesn't work, will he adjust next year?

Harden has exceeded my expectations.  I have to constantly remind myself how lucky we are to have him on the team and get to watch him on a nightly basis.

Kobe game winners is a bit of a misnomer since many of his "clutch shots" weren't on the final possession, but in the possessions leading up to that point.  Further, it is easy to criticize his numbers now.  There was a time when he was "king of crunch time" whether people choose to diminish it or not.  Also, context matters and regular season "clutch" is not the same as playoff "clutch".

This guy made a list that is pretty comprehensive; although, I think he could have included even more if you consider the closing minutes of a tight game important--which I do.  (as Rockets fans, we have spent the better part of two seasons bemoaning our late game collapses)

      LINK

He notes playoffs, finals, OT, and includes some "eventual game winners" at the bottom.  The thing to note is the clustering in his early career--which is what led to the reputation so many are quick to disparage now.  That list ends in 2010--as it should.  Shortly thereafter the wolves came out looking to knock Kobe and his scowl down a peg--Truehoops' own Henry Abbott did as much here.

I liken this to a person who would take the time to say Helen Mirren isn't one of Hollywood's most beautiful women.  Well, relative to her acting peers of today she is not the most beautiful, but let us not forget that there was a time when she was.  Now and Then.  She was Jennifer Lawrence before Lawrence was ever born.

The same is true with Kobe.  Know this--a day will come when we Rocket fans will sound like those insane Kobe fans defending James Harden's honor when people try to say he was never clutch or an offensive juggernaut or whatever they wind up saying.

Sorry for the Kobe rant, but it is easy to forget that it was a real thing and not just a figment of our imaginations.

Thanks for the words on Harden Rahat. After that middle part of his first Rockets season I thought he was destined to be a superstar and argued as much going back then. I still remember how excited I was in the Atlanta game when he scored 40 something points, I knew we were in for some kind of ride.

And to you Gambit, Lin actually benefited from Harden as do all of his teammates. Welcome to Red94.

You can say that again johnnygold, you were hard on Harden here in the forums in the past. I went back and read some of your posts, talk about tough. You seem to have had a problem with his old fashion FG% at one point. I actually believe this team needs one more creator/playmaker and that's when James can improve his shooting though his scoring may dip. I believe this might be the apex of this first stage of Harden. After more heartbreak this postseason I think he reaches new heights next year but that other big player must be added and Dwight needs to play 60 plus games.

I still have my Durant dream.

Not all isolation plays are equal.

Yeah, I was a bit tough on him.  He has improved quite a bit in all facets of the game--really can't criticize his game much these days.  He has mostly ditched the offensive flopping (throwing his head back and such) he employed quite a bit last season and I think it has made him much better.  He is more focused on making the shot and letting the foul calls come more naturally in the flow of the game.  I used to worry that James couldn't survive if the ref's whistles went away.  Now, I am confident he can find other ways to keep the offense going creating for others, using the mid-range, etc.

The Durant Dream is certainly intriguing.  I still prefer Davis.  :P

Good piece and points JG. It would be great to have KD and AD, although if I had to pick one, I would actually go with AD because of different skill sets on the table...

Helen Mirren was a super hottie in her younger years! But yeah that was a funny line!
