@  Sir Thursday : (07 April 2014 - 02:14 AM) That is by far and away the best I've ever seen Asik play. He was incredible tonight.
@  Dan G : (07 April 2014 - 02:02 AM) Well we needed everyone of those 47 points in the 2Q cause we decided to drop the ball in the second half. Luckily we pulled it out.
@  jorgeaam : (07 April 2014 - 12:13 AM) And Asik with 12 points and 17 rebounds in 19 min, this is just amazing basketball
@  jorgeaam : (07 April 2014 - 12:12 AM) Wow, 47 points in 2Q
@  BrentYen : (05 April 2014 - 05:04 AM) Today is a perfect day I guess....lol
@  Dan G : (05 April 2014 - 04:58 AM) Tonight's win was a breath of fresh air that I desperately needed after all the sighing I've been doing the last three games.
@  feelingsuper... : (05 April 2014 - 04:51 AM) Blazers lose!!!
@  miketheodio : (05 April 2014 - 04:45 AM) asik came through at the end of the game.
@  Opasido : (05 April 2014 - 04:39 AM) Honestly besides LBJ I dunno
@  feelingsuper... : (05 April 2014 - 04:23 AM) Yesssssss! Harden dominates, team gets stops and the Rockets win! Parsons and Garcia did what they were supposed to do on Durant which has got to be nothing but good as they enter the playoffs, officially!
@  Drew in Abilene : (05 April 2014 - 04:15 AM) Great win.
@  Opasido : (05 April 2014 - 04:04 AM) It's like Francisco Garcia's sole purpose for being put on this earth is to guard Kevin Durant.
@  Cooper : (05 April 2014 - 03:34 AM) a bit spoiled by Dwight
@  Opasido : (05 April 2014 - 03:09 AM) Am I spoiled by Dwight or does Asik look highly incompetent out there. Sigh
@  torn_meniscus : (04 April 2014 - 08:38 PM) GO ROCKETS!
@  feelingsuper... : (04 April 2014 - 07:17 PM) I couldn't edit my previous post, what I meant was once one were to take in all the probabilities that mathematically the Rockets chances of missing the playoffs are pretty much nil. Sorry you're a Dolphins fan, that's rough.
@  MrLobble : (04 April 2014 - 04:44 AM) Ahhh, I see it now! Whew that's a stress reliever... My Dolphins broke my heart this past season with a colassal failure
@  Buckko : (04 April 2014 - 04:28 AM) I just had a very nasty thought. Imagine signing James Johnson in the offseason as an elite wing defender and pairing him with Beverly. The whole league would hate us.
@  Buckko : (04 April 2014 - 04:26 AM) Westbrook won't be playing against us tomorrow.
@  jorgeaam : (04 April 2014 - 04:08 AM) I think it is "mathematically impossible" because some of the teams with posibilities face each other, so only 1 of them would actually get a W, but they still have odds to enter if you just consider games left, which is the basis of the (x)

He's apparently leaving immediately. Something must have happened.

He is going to be the new U of H coach.  Nothing strange about having to leave immediately since it's to a College program and he will have to get going on recruiting and preparations for current players.

Hopefully it won't be too big of a loss for the Rockets, by this point in the season hopefully the guys need less coaching from the assistants as opposed to general guidance from McHale.

If you ask some, it won't have any effect at all since our coaches don't do anything :P

I'll miss his interviews the most.  I have shushed my wife mid-sentence because Sampson was being interviewed and I wanted to hear what he had to say.  Thank goodness she loves and understands me .

I do think this gives Bickerstaff a chance to shine.  I always presumed there was a bit of a pecking order (even though they have said the opposite publicly)--either way, I think JB is going to take on a big chunk of Sampson's job.  I like him a lot too.  Maybe we see a few new wrinkles (with his fingerprints on them) heading into the playoffs.

@JG...you probably will not want to try your luck again. :P

TO my understanding, he is handling the defensive schemes for the ROX. So....I assume it actually impacts the team a lot that he left.

Is a big Jeremy Lin fan and was a big ROX fan. More importantly, a huge bball fan in general.

Him leaving now means nothing. The Rockets know what they do best on the defensive side of the ball, what schemes and rotations worked best for them.

Good luck coach Sampson, stay away from texting.

I would hope that the coaching staff as a unit have been thoroughly briefed regarding all his ideas before he leaves. I'm sure they've all been concocting stuff and sharing it amongst themselves anyway, so hopefully it will be easy enough for someone else to step up and take over the reins.

Morey was interviewed yesterday and he spoke about Sampson leaving and what I took away was that losing Sampson as a coach will definitely be a loss but that the defensive scheme and goals were set long ago and the players must work on that process themselves. Morey said Sampson is a head coach and they all knew it was a matter of time before he got offered something.

In my imagination whatever Sampson had left to say to the players and coaches he said to them ahead of time and gave them mantras or areas of focus to work on or repeat as the team enters the post season. Whatever torch he carried someone like Bickerstaff or someone else will carry it on the rest of this race, that's what teams with leaders do.

Defensive scheme was probably set before season start. But more important thing is scouting and  in game adjustments.

You know we can't replace Harden with Lin. Same may be true for coaching. Sampson was too valuable and I am not sure how good JB is.

I know I thought Sampson was the superior coach to Mchale in terms of Xs and Os.

I'm not sure what we are debating here. I am with Morey, it was a matter of time before he'd be gone and I'm sure the team was ready. It's what happens to overqualified assistant coaches, they become head coaches. The Rockets coarse really won't change much.

It's funny how arm chair GM's now want to panic. Sampson leaving ain't moving the needle on the remainder of this season and if you think Sampson equals an extra win or two well everyone is entitled to any kind of opinion.

Also, the Rockets have played every team this year so team specific schemes are in place for anyone confused about such matters.

I don't think it will make much difference anyway since I don't believe we will win a ring this year. We need a year in the playoffs getting seasoned. But to say losing a quality assistant coach mid year won't do anything is just as asinine as those who are panicking. And insulting people by calling them arm chair GMs is a little beneath you.

I thought it was wierd that he would leave so close to the postseason until I learned of the rule that as soon as he accepted he HAD to leave the Rockets.I wish him luck with UH.

I also agree that there was a contingency in place for this thing since Morey seems on top of things and knew with the success of the rockets we will be raided for our coaching talents and our front office personnel.

You would think it was weird, you're so weird man. Any talk show that has discussed it sees nothing weird about it and neither do I. It's kind of hard to spell it out any more for you: he needs to start recruiting, you should be able to grasp that idea in theory so he needs to start ASAP. Basically no one on this forum seems weirded out by this except you, get over it dude.

I will repeat myself timetodie, I don't believe Sampson leaving this year will sway a game or series. Now next year not having Sampson for preseason will be a loss in my opinion but that is when other assistants will have an opportunity to step in and fill the void, maybe someone will. Only time will tell.

The best thing that could happen is we hire Dikembe Mutombo to be our defense coach.  I have no idea how he would be with the X's and O's, but the interviews would be off the charts amazing!

....and my favorite one....Impressions of Mutombo by our favorite Rockets players!

The Rockets should hire JVG to be the defensive coordinator.

I apologize timetodie, last night I shouldn't have wrote things about you that are not true. I apologize for the disrespect I showed you.

With that out if they way I just want to explain that it seemed like everyone in the thread agreed it seemed like normal procedure and then you still mentioned it was weird. I shouldn't have commented. I got frustrated and also I am not asinine. I might be obnoxious and condescending from time to time but I am most certainly not stupid.

Lol. I overreacted too. My internships up soon and I've got to wait until the 17th to find out if my firms going to make an offer. I shouldn't have called your position asinine just because I disagreed.

But Yeah I disagree that losing him won't be costly, but I doubt it will result in too much of an effect in the playoffs since I don't think we're "real" contenders in the vein of the thunder and the spurs. We don't have enough chemistry built up to make a serious run, barring some catastrophe Duncan/Durant/Lebron/Hibbert all getting injured.

            Here's something by Creech:

            http://blog.chron.co...-staff-shuffle/

Dean Cooper not only moved over the assistant coaches bench but also took over on the coveted scouting report of the Thunder. If this stuff means something to you how much can it mean. To me it just seems that behind the curtain there is much that goes on that fans have no idea about.
