via NBA -- Best, worst coaching hires - ESPN:
There were rumblings of a disconnect between Adelman and the Rockets' front office with the former having been not so receptive to analytical data nor enthusiastic about the call for a youth movement. In McHale, Daryl Morey gets a man open to his ideas but who carries a big stick, bringing instant credibility to the sidelines.

Myself and four others weigh in on the recent coaching changes in the NBA.

I am not going to lie. I have absolutely no belief that this will work. I am really hoping we somehow keep Adelman's offense intact.

I go to sleep dreaming of Lowry becoming moody and depressed as it becomes ever more obvious we cease to have any motion in our offense whatsoever.
Of course there probably won't be a season so I guess that is a bigger nightmare.
Also I never thought of Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich as people that carry a big stick. They are just good motivators.

For me it is interesting I never paid attention to assistant NBA coaches, but int the Rockets case they now seem all important.

If I recall correctly, I think they plan on keeping Adelman's offense in place.

Coach Chris Finch has been teaching that offense the past two years with the Vipers. Plus, he augmented it with plays of his own. Maybe he will be a more key assistant than one might expect... One thing for sure, the Vipers were fun to watch with their high-octane version of the Rocket's playbook.

For the curious, Finch's winning percentage with the Vipers was .670 over the past two years. Last year's team averaged 109.5 pts. per game, while surrendering 104.5. His style of basketball keeps everyone involved, more so than Adelman did. Even as the daily roster changed with call-ups and injuries, the team hardly missed a beat offensively. I just hope he gets to stretch his wings under McHale...

The Dream Shake blog had a link to a pretty interesting article about what McHale might bring to the Rocket's offense. Seems like some good motion-based sets. It's not like the Celtics of old had Dennis Johnson pounding the rock at the top of the key or Larry Bird isolating his man on the wing either.

btw, Rahat, the anti-spam "complete the task" function is an improvement over those ink blot translations.

Yeah, there hasn't been any spam ever since I installed that. Though I worry that it might be too difficult. Are you having to complete the task everytime you post? I was under the impression it was only upon registration.

Also, out of curiosity, with as much as you post, why are you still posting as a guest? You can register that name and have your post total accumulate etc etc. Wasn't sure if it seemed like approval was required or something..

WHy haven't I registered? Hmmm... Laziness? Afraid of commitment? I don't know. I just haven't bothered. If it saves me from having to do the anti-spam task, maybe I will register. I actually had to complete the task twice for this post.

It's too bad you can't design your own.. Like put the hoop in the basket. Or match the player with the team logo. But then I'd never be able to post after trying to put Dwight Howard on the Rockets.

Oh that's fine - I noticed that a lot of people were posting as guests so was worried that it seemed like approval was required for registration.
