@  thejohnnygold : (29 September 2015 - 05:16 AM) FYI, it was media day today. Interviews are up at NBA.com
@  slick shoes : (23 September 2015 - 06:37 PM) kind of late in the day but NBATV is broadcasting classis Rockets games all day today.
@  SadLakerFan : (16 September 2015 - 04:37 AM) Man, as a Laker fan, I'm learning how little you care about the off season when your team sucks. Anyway, a quick moment to remember Moses. Still remember watching the 81 team as a kid - losing record, NBA Finals. I would have cried w/joy if they could have beaten the Celtics.
@  jorgeaam : (15 September 2015 - 08:30 PM) http://bleacherrepor...ist-after-crash
@  jorgeaam : (15 September 2015 - 08:30 PM) So to celebrate his new contract, Montrezl Harrell saved someone's life on monday
@  thejohnnygold : (14 September 2015 - 04:36 PM) A good article from Blinebury talking about when Hakeem and Moses used to play in the park. LINK
@  rockets best... : (14 September 2015 - 02:29 AM) I agree totally. I got to watch his Rocket days and the man was a hell of a player. BIG MO R.I.P.
@  Mario Peña : (13 September 2015 - 05:24 PM) Sad to see Moses pass. I don't remember watching him as a Rocket but I do remember his Philly and Hawks teams. He was the perfect man to mentor Dream. It's a very sad day for his family and friends and there are many.
@  majik19 : (12 September 2015 - 09:01 PM) i just saw a post wishing Yao Ming a happy 35th birthday... am I the only one whose mind is blown that he's only 35?
@  cointurtlemoose : (08 September 2015 - 01:17 AM) aaaah, thanks jorge
@  jorgeaam : (08 September 2015 - 12:21 AM) Love it how Hinkie and Morey always target the same players, but hoping he isn't another Covington
@  thejohnnygold : (08 September 2015 - 12:03 AM) Christian Wood has signed with Philly
@  jorgeaam : (07 September 2015 - 10:32 PM) If I'm not wrong, he hasn't been waived yet, they have until october 4th to do that
@  cointurtlemoose : (07 September 2015 - 05:39 PM) Anyone else surprised that Kostas hasn't gotten picked up by anyone yet? I wanna see that guy play somewhere
@  redfaithful : (05 September 2015 - 10:48 PM) Llull line from today loss to Serbia: 30MIN 1-10PG, 0-5 3PG, 4-4FT 6AST, 1TO, 4REB, +/- -11
@  Losthief : (03 September 2015 - 02:27 AM) this dude's gun fired and all he got a misdemeanor at bush lol: http://abc13.com/new...ush-iah/815795/
@  Losthief : (03 September 2015 - 02:26 AM) theres more articles all over, but the jist is houston (and texas) doesn't really arrest for it, they just recommend you leave it in your car when they catch it. So seems dwight got lucky he was in texas and not cali or the NE.
@  Losthief : (03 September 2015 - 02:22 AM) honestly we should just be glad they caught it...

Ahhhhh....I am presuming we still have Lin at this juncture.  It is my belief that when Lin and Parsons' contracts come up for renewal a decision will be made as to which one we will retain.  I believe a decent back-up center can be found once we are established contenders.  Guys like Kenyon Martin, Chris Andersen, etc. always seem to be available for one reason or another.  Just check out the list of free agents and what they played for last season  at Hoopsworld....lots of serviceable veterans that played for $850K.  Given our offensive prowess, guys like Nazr Mohammed, Jason Collins, Kenyon Martin, or Ronny Turiaf make sense.  We may not get our first choice as teams look to fill needs, but we will get one of these guys and they will be fine.  They won't be Omer Asik--that's for sure!  As long as we can get someone to hold down the fort for 15 minutes a game on defense I think we will be good.

I don't see any reason why Terrence Jones can't defend better than Kenyon Martin or Chris Andersen. And for whatever it's worth, I'm pretty sure we're bringing Furkan Aldemir over this year (Morey talked to a bunch of season ticket holders a few weeks ago and he said the chances are pretty good).

@Feelingsupersonic

I get what you're saying, but parson is a part of our identity. he and harden along with howard is a core we can interchange parts around for years much like san Antonio does with Duncan, parker and ginobli. I do think parsons will cost us some money in 2 years, but may have emerged into a borderline allstar by then. I know the cp3 rumors are out there along with a bunch of other possible outcomes. however the rockets should resist all those options and build a team that can be sustained and maintained. if they get cp3 and howard they must strip the team down to looking something like Miami.....and I don't want that. just signing howard into the present team and making minor changes around harden, howard and parsons can keep us in contention for the next decade

I agree with what all three of you are bringing up or bring to light. I know it's completely different, but I guess after Yao going down I am paranoid about running centers into the ground.

100% agree--which is why keeping Asik is a desirable move to make.  I would only let him go under special circumstances.  Again, we can retain him as well as Lin and Parsons and after two years together make the tough decision at that time.  Morey has us set up very, very well.  I'm also not sold on this $58.5M salary cap--all indications are that it will be higher--I am very surprised that people think it won't.  It is based off of League profits and profits are up over last year.

Here is the deal from CBAFAQ.

I think the cap will fall around $60.5M based off of this.

The NBA set Gate revenue records this year

David Stern projected a 20% increase last November

And for you conspiracy theorists...is Stern trying to limit profits by having a finals with fewer total games???? :o

False.

Early projections given to NBA teams in May have the salary cap rising to just $58.5 million for the 2013-14 season, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Grantland's Zach Lowe confirmed Stein's report.

@JG

as for the salary cap I too believe it will be higher...........maybe around 60 mil. the NBA forecast is always a little low. however until the REAL numbers are crunched it's all speculation.  the nba has had a very good year. also whether the finals go 4 games are 7 games the TV revenues won't change and that's where the bulk of the money on the finals comes from, so that pretty much renders that a moot point

If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but the cap is based off of profits and profits are up.  Unless they are doing some funny accounting or hiding in a loop-hole in the CBA the cap should increase.  We'll know in about a month.

@JG

I'm sure with all the lawyers both the NBA and the NBAPA have there will be very little to none of the funny accounting going on

    I should generally point out that the last 2 times the cap was raised, these league sources ended up falling at least 1-2 m lower than the end result, because the players union must sign up for the end result.

    (also, there has been a rather long period since the cap was last move, the only mildly plausible reason I can see it not moving up much is if they're counting the losses of the lockout.)

    I'll adjust my estimations after the cap changes. Right now I'm going with what the NBA says it will be.

    I agree when the NBAPA gets involved we probably see the figure go up. the NBA's estimates are always conservative

    Well I hope it goes up, just $1.5 million extra could make a huge difference for us.
