[red94] The Houston Rockets are in a really good spot (Bynum or Howard?)

Don't fall into the obvious fan trap of inflating the value of guys just because they're on your team.

So he did. My mistake. Still think we should make the attempt, but not at too great a cost. The amount of size possible in next year's draft is sizable. Heh.

Freebird there are so many moving parts, rumours and contract intricacies during free agency that we all miss things. Seems like if you miss a day or two of news you can easily miss something. Being part of the Red94 Forum has really kept me up to date and has taught me a few things too. Anyroad, I agree Bynum should be the number one goal and as Lifestyle writes it is an easy time of the year to overvalue the Summer Leaguers.

I think you guys are overvaluing the summer league results quite a bit. It's basically the D-League (which Marcus Morris dominated last year). Our guys looking good in a few summer league games doesn't necessarily mean they'll ever be good NBA players.

As I see it, Summer League gives you a glimpse of what these players could be like if they can adjust to the big step up in size and speed that comes with the move into the NBA. What it doesn't do is give you any assurances that they will be able to successfully make that transition. It's up to McHale and the coaching staff to prepare them for that as best they can (difficult, when you don't really have any examples on your roster for them to practice against).

It is hard to compare summer league to the D League when many of the players who participate in the Summer league will make NBA 15 man roster teams, will Start on some NBA teams (Lilliard, Leonard, Ross, Henson and MKG to name a few) and never have to visit the D-League. It is a different level of competition due to the fact that the D-League will receive the leftovers from the players not added from summer league. Sure, we might overvalue how our squad has performed during its summer league performance, but all that shows is a strong belief in the future development in our team along with hope that maybe next year will not pan out as bad as many analyst/spectators are expecting us to be.

The point of all this is not giving up all the things you said. I think Hennigan wants all that stuff from us and Morey is not bending over, in my opinion.
@Johnny Rocket
The Lakers are way over the cap, so in order to make that work, they can't be taking even way more salary (Howard makes more money than Bynum and Richardson would raise that number). So they are gonna give up something like Metta and it's more likely to send him here. I think that in order to pull that, we'd be getting one bad contract from each side if Lakers are willing to land Richardson (something like Metta and Turk, or Metta, Duhon and Davis).

Interesting. Like you guys, just a few days ago, I thought Howard was a must-get no-brainer. But now, after seeing these guys play, while I still think he should be the main focus, I'm not willing to give up too much. No better bargaining position than when you don't need to do the deal.
I think the team will be terrible without Howard, but if they're actually good, the exciting thing is that it means they were good because of the young players! No more useless production like Scola/Dalembert carrying the team to wins.
I really want to know what it would take to get Bynum here. If you can give up say, just the Toronto pick and take back only one bad contract, and not give up any of the rookies, that would be incredible.
There you go, falling back to your old self.
Look, if we don't get Howard this will be the same old same old Rockets, a team built on hard wordking blue colar type players that will get you the 14th pick in the draft.
I'm very excited Morey corrected his collsal mistake in getting Lin back but if we don't get Howard we won't be able to go after Chris Paul next season.
Also everyone is forgetting the next draft is going to be one of the all time worst drafts with no super star potential

Anyone who is happy not wanting to get Howard simply doesn't follow the NBA.

Agreed with most of you all above. Summer league shows us what they can become one day. But if as currently composed, this team will be dreadful next year. That's not a bad thing at all, IMHO.
It's a very bad thing when the next draft won't have any upside star talent.

I personally have been thinking about the Rocket scenarios more than any fan should. Earlier today I was debating whether Howard or Bynum would be the best fit for the Rockets but both would be great even though they both have weaknesses. I have changed my mind again as to the desired outcomes Howard is priority number one, then Bynum and then the youth movement. It has been shown the Lake show want Howard so he couod always be flipped to them if necessary. Having the best cards in the game is the goal.
you have no concerns over bynums injuries (history) ?

I've said a lot of times that I wouldn't feel bad if we keep our young ones, but either way could benefit us, short term or on the long run. We really are in a good place right now, let's face it. It's up to Morey to take us there, right?

i dont care about the recent reports of dwight saying he'll re-sign with LA and dwight doesnt think he can win in houston. id still prefer him as my top choice. im pretty sure, MONEY, morey, hakeem, lin, lee, whomever/whatever can convince him to re-sign eventually. my second choice would be for the young guys / rebuild. i would really dislike a scenario where we land bynum, unless its on the cheap (which i dont see happening). his injuries scare me.
Hands down, no brainer, without a doubt getting Howard is the best option out of all mentioned and it's not even close. I'm honestly shocked how anyone who watches NBA disagrees with that. If you can get the most dominant center in the game you do it, if he doesn't want to resign after a year and is willing to throw that extra 25 or 30 million then there's nothing we can do about it. We can then go in tank mode. Also this next draft is touted as being possibly one of the all time worst drafts so picking early next year's draft isn't ideal.

Howard, like his attitude or not, is one of only a few players who can carry his team to the finals alone and that's very rare in the NBA.
