With hindsight, it's obvious that Budinger would be easier to move than Martin. Budinger's salary makes him a Bargain with a capital B. I don't think there's a team on the league who wouldn't happily have Budinger on their roster, simply because he barely costs them anything. On the other hand, Martin's big salary is considerably harder to shift simply because there are far fewer teams who are willing to take on that kind of salary, especially with the more punitive luxury tax coming in.
In terms of their on-court contributions, Martin is still more valuable than Budinger. But probably not enough to justify the extra dollars. The expiring contract will come into play at the trade deadline, but right now teams are still preserving their flexibility to try and nab free agents. If Martin does get moved, I wouldn't expect it to happen before FA has shaken out.
Having said this, I then saw the news about the Detroit-Charlotte deal, in which two players with high salaries were swapped in order to trade a pick for salary cap relief. I guess it's possible that Martin could be dealt early if Morey wants to turn Martin into a pick to use...

Martin could be traded for a first round pick and a player before the draft lottery is set. If the pick ends up being below the 20th, thats a whole different issue. But now you know the order of the draft, and there is no way you trade Martin (both his skills and contract) for an 18th pick.
In the Charlotte deal, they traded an expiring contract (Maggete) for a first round pick and a young gunner (Gordon).
And i doubt Maggete can produce for Detroit, they just got him for cap relief.
But whoever gets Martin is gonna get both production and cap relief, so he is def worth an unprotected first round pick + young player.

lol I understand but not for an 18th pick.

For a first round pick, yep I think 18 falls in the first round, as for a player- not one worth their contract if they're established, and if theyre young likely not a future all star or anything.
Unprotected first round pick, so now you want a future pick instead, which changes everything as next years draft will likely be much weaker than this year(could mean a 10-15 who knows). Although with unprotected picks comes risk, it could wind up beong the 30th-which means other factors such as players coming back dependent on the team Martin would be traded to.
Either way contradicting statements...a top ten and a player, a first rounder, or an unprotected first...which is it Stew?

Corey Maggette just got traded for a first round pick and a young player in Gordon.
You dont think Martin is more valuable than Maggette. They both have expiring contracts, Martin is definitely a wayyyyy better player than Maggette.
And did you look into your crystal ball and see the future about next years draft.
Every draft analyst worth his pay has said this draft is top heavy, too many risks and only one guaranteed player.
