@  slick shoes : (21 June 2017 - 04:28 PM) Morey is locked in for four more years. Glad to have some stability at the helm after everything we've seen the last couple of weeks.
@  slick shoes : (16 June 2017 - 04:31 PM) It's a shame we don't have a first rounder this year. I did notice that the W's and the Cavs have 0 picks this year (not that they need them).
@  thejohnnygold : (16 June 2017 - 03:57 PM) Whoever picks him is going to be a happy camper
@  slick shoes : (16 June 2017 - 02:00 PM) De'Aaron Fox giving Bev a shout at the end of this piece
http://www.espn.com/...var-ball-chorus
@  slick shoes : (22 May 2017 - 05:25 PM) I can't decide if I want them to draft Ball or not.
@  thejohnnygold : (21 May 2017 - 02:50 PM) Don't worry...they'll find a way to screw it up.
@  slick shoes : (17 May 2017 - 03:52 PM) Is anyone else annoyed that the league reached out and helped the Lakers secure a top 3 pick to keep them from long term ruin?
@  Mario Peña : (13 May 2017 - 11:56 AM) It would appear James will take games off next year which is probably a good thing. Perhaps we will see some evolution from emphasis on regular season to being playoff ready both from a physical as well as a strategy standpoint.
@  rocketrick : (12 May 2017 - 05:26 AM) I personally will be rooting for the Spurs in their next matchup with Golden State in the Western Conference Finals
@  rocketrick : (12 May 2017 - 05:26 AM) Congratulations to the Spurs and Coach Pop. They completely destroyed the Rockets last night (understatement of the year)
@  DenverRocket : (12 May 2017 - 02:55 AM) Very disappointing end to an otherwise great season.
@  DenverRocket : (12 May 2017 - 01:10 AM) Stunningly bad. Out played, out coached and no one is stepping up :-(
@  slick shoes : (12 May 2017 - 01:07 AM) Well, it can't get any worse right?
@  slick shoes : (12 May 2017 - 12:35 AM) It's like Dekker has been waiting to play or something.
@  08huangj : (11 May 2017 - 12:08 PM) It is utterly baffling to me why MDA is not utilizing Dekker and Harrell. These two were integral to our dominant regular season bench!
@  DenverRocket : (10 May 2017 - 03:18 AM) Everything the TNT analysts said, I was screaming during OT. MDA blamed it on fatigue - no kidding sherlock, when you only use a 7 player rotation!
@  DenverRocket : (10 May 2017 - 03:17 AM) Sorely disappointed with that. Huge missed opportunity. I thought McHale was coaching again in overtime!
@  slick shoes : (10 May 2017 - 03:02 AM) No offensive scheme in overtime. No Parker, and no Leonard through all of overtime and you STILL can't close it out?!
@  thejohnnygold : (10 May 2017 - 02:57 AM) So much profanity in my home tonight...
@  Mario Peña : (08 May 2017 - 06:57 PM) Right Johnnygold! That was a good game!

Just what I wanted!  Trade away a skilled big for an aging 6'9" center!

Okay, I need to wait to see what the bigger plan is, as I am convinced this is just the first move en route to something bigger.  Not sure if that something bigger is coming today or after the season ends.

I can only hope that it is because his back is permanently broken.  That, or Morey knows he is getting fired and is burning the place down before he goes.

Also, I presume there is a draft pick or 2 involved here....

Letting my mind wander....is this an indicator that Dwight is on his way out and we are about to get a stud PF?

Just saw...we are getting a 2016 1st rounder in the deal.  Ugh...if D-Mo gets healthy I am going to be so very, very angry with Morey.  Meanwhile, Detroit is going to be a monster soon.

I hate hate hate this trade.

The only way this works is if we can flip that 1st for something good.

If Motie gets healthy, we're going to see exactly what could have been with Drummond taking Howard's role.

The only other possibility is that Morey plans to go after him in free agency.

The health can't be part of it - if we know Motie isn't healthy, Detroit could file a grievance against us, etc. etc.

Trade everyone for draft picks and just start with a clean slate for free agents and the draft this offseason?

The trade won't go through if D-Mo doesn't pass the physical, I believe. I hate this trade, but I'm with JG on this one: his back must be beyond repair, otherwise, it's befuddling.....in the pace and space era, how can we let go of the only guy who can play C and spread the floor effectively while providing adequate defense and a beautiful post up game?

I wish him well....Detroit WILL be great in a year or two. Jackson, KCP, Harris, Motiejunas, Drummond.....that lineup has potential to get to the ECF. Good for Van Gundy

Is there a chance Detroit doesn't leapfrog one of Chicago/Charlotte to get into the playoffs?  All 3 are neck and neck.  If not, we're looking at mid-teens.  If so, late teens early 20's on that draft pick.

@Ale11 - I totally agree.  Detroit is gonna be good.  I imagine Cleveland/Toronto are looking at that potential playoff match-up this season and are not overly excited.  That's going to be a tougher out than people think.

If we do nothing else today, I might just forfeit the rest of this season. I get D-Mo, and can only assume they know more about the back injury than we do, but why did Thornton go? Salary matching? Luxury tax reasons? He was a one trick pony, but a cheap and fairly effective one trick pony.

Don't really like the deal but to be fair Motie hasn't looked very good this year and if they draft another quality guy mid round like Capella it'd probably be a win. Still would like to see Howard, Lawson and Jones on the way out.

If this is our last trade of the day, I'd be even more shocked than when I was to hear of this trade in the first place.  Something is brewing...either a big trade or chalking this season up as lost.

I'm with you JG.......something has to be up with the back issue. maybe he's not progressing like he should be.

We'll find out eventually.  I saw another rumor that Rockets are checking Beverley's trade value.  It seems everyone except Harden is on the block.  2 hours to go....

                Posted 18 February 2016 - 07:13 PM

Are we thinking with our hearts and not our heads?

ESPN rated this trade a C- for the Pistons and an A for the Rockets.

Here's the text backing up the Rockets' grade. I'd like to point out some fallacies in the argument - one is Capela did indeed move ahead of Motie in the value pecking order but to say he "supplanted" him is not quite appropriate, seeing as Motie is a 4/5 and Capela is def a 5. That goes along with the very next sentence, that says Capela has proven he can play next to Howard - I don't think that's true, and is certainly not playable in today's NBA.

A few hours before the deadline, the Rockets' big-picture strategy remains unclear. Whatever direction they go, however, dealing Motiejunas for this kind of value makes sense. As important a piece as he was to Houston's 2014-15 regular season, Motiejunas got usurped in the frontcourt pecking order this season by the younger Clint Capela, who has also shown the ability to play alongside starting center Dwight Howard in addition to backing him up.

Given how much Rockets general manager Daryl Morey prizes flexibility, re-signing Motiejunas to a big contract this summer seemed unlikely. So Houston has to be elated at getting a pick likely to land in the middle of the first round in return.

The protections on the pick Detroit is sending the Rockets are worth noting.According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the selection is top-8 protected this season and protected in the top 10 each of the next two years.

Realistically, barring unprecedented injuries, the 2016 protection basically amounts to the Pistons keeping the pick if they land one of the top three spots in the lottery. Otherwise, even if Detroit misses the playoffs -- a reasonable possibility given that the Pistons are currently a half-game out of eighth and weakened themselves in the short term by trading backup point guard Brandon Jennings to get Harris -- Houston is almost certainly getting this pick.

Swapping 30 games of an injury-limited Motiejunas plus his matching rights for a four-year rookie contract of a player drafted around 15th is terrific from a value standpoint.

There's another small, ancillary benefit to this trade for the Rockets, who shed about $700,000 in salary taking back Anthony's $2.5 million deal. That either translates into luxury-tax savings for Houston, which is currently over the tax line, or makes it easier for the Rockets to add salary in subsequent trades. By virtue of using the full mid-level exception this summer, Houston is hard-capped at $88.7 million in payroll. The Rockets now stand about $1.2 million below that total.

When my phone alerted me to DMO's departure, I immediately went ill.  I haven't felt such an emotional blow from the Rockets since Yao's tumble.  This is worse than Llilard's dagger.

Det will not go through with the trade if his back was beyond repair. And we are basically getting a mid teen pick which I have hard time believing will ever have the Potential that DMo has. This is a huge mistake. Everyone is going small and Dmo has the skill set to be the future 5s who can post up, pass, shoot 3s while anchoring a D which he showed last year.

I understand that Capela is intriguing but he doesn't have the same potential and versatility that Dmo possess.
