So over the last several weeks...actually, maybe since the beginning of the year the majority of the time I read any article about playoff teams, where they will fall, who is a contender, the Rockets usually come up as the team that is going to take a dip in the standings. Here it is, almost March, and the Rockets are still standing strong as the 3 seed in West with several of their key players missing significant time. When is this inevitable decline going to happen sports writers?
I still don't understand how a team that is doing what they are doing doesn't get the credit they deserve. I am ecstatic that James Harden is a legit MVP candidate and getting the attention he deserves, but the team is not given any. I haven't even heard McHale's name mentioned in any coach of the year conversations. He is coaching a team that 98% of NBA experts thought would either miss the playoffs or struggle to get the final playoff spot (I still don't understand why they thought that) . Don't get me wrong. McHale is not a great coach (his good enough), but to get little recognition for what he has done this season with a forever rotating line up is insane. David Blat is talked about more than McHale. The man has LeBron, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love starting. Are you freaking kidding me? Its like Erik Spoelstra getting coach of year when he had Lebron, Wade, Bosh, AND Ray Allen.
Oh, and while Harden should be MVP if he continues doing what he is doing, it will be hard to overcome the love Steph Curry and the Warriors have been getting all year. The Warriors are the best team and Curry is their best player, but let's be honest they would still make the playoffs without Curry. Without Harden the Rockets would be in a Sacramento Kings situation.
I just wanted to see if any of you Red94s had an opinion on this lack of respect and credit for the team and not just Harden.
One more thing...I hope the Rockets control their turnovers or hit their free throws in the playoffs. They don't have to do both (it would be nice if they did), but at least one of those to make a deep run in the playoffs.
