@  slick shoes : (23 September 2015 - 06:37 PM) kind of late in the day but NBATV is broadcasting classis Rockets games all day today.
@  SadLakerFan : (16 September 2015 - 04:37 AM) Man, as a Laker fan, I'm learning how little you care about the off season when your team sucks. Anyway, a quick moment to remember Moses. Still remember watching the 81 team as a kid - losing record, NBA Finals. I would have cried w/joy if they could have beaten the Celtics.

@  jorgeaam : (15 September 2015 - 08:30 PM) So to celebrate his new contract, Montrezl Harrell saved someone's life on monday
@  thejohnnygold : (14 September 2015 - 04:36 PM) A good article from Blinebury talking about when Hakeem and Moses used to play in the park. LINK
@  rockets best... : (14 September 2015 - 02:29 AM) I agree totally. I got to watch his Rocket days and the man was a hell of a player. BIG MO R.I.P.
@  Mario Peña : (13 September 2015 - 05:24 PM) Sad to see Moses pass. I don't remember watching him as a Rocket but I do remember his Philly and Hawks teams. He was the perfect man to mentor Dream. It's a very sad day for his family and friends and there are many.
@  majik19 : (12 September 2015 - 09:01 PM) i just saw a post wishing Yao Ming a happy 35th birthday... am I the only one whose mind is blown that he's only 35?
@  cointurtlemoose : (08 September 2015 - 01:17 AM) aaaah, thanks jorge
@  jorgeaam : (08 September 2015 - 12:21 AM) Love it how Hinkie and Morey always target the same players, but hoping he isn't another Covington
@  thejohnnygold : (08 September 2015 - 12:03 AM) Christian Wood has signed with Philly
@  jorgeaam : (07 September 2015 - 10:32 PM) If I'm not wrong, he hasn't been waived yet, they have until october 4th to do that
@  cointurtlemoose : (07 September 2015 - 05:39 PM) Anyone else surprised that Kostas hasn't gotten picked up by anyone yet? I wanna see that guy play somewhere

These last couple games are gonna be interesting with the 2-6 seeds. The Clippers have a pretty easy schedule to finish out, they're on a tear, and only two games back from the 2. You could say the same for the Spurs, except their schedule is pretty tough, and I wouldn't be surprised if Pop started getting conservative in his rotations.

Our schedule is kind of tough (I'm even counting the Pels as a tough game, given our track record). With the Blazers locked into the 4, I honestly would prefer the 5 to the 3 at this point, and we'd probably even retain home court. On the other hand, then we'd be facing the Warriors in round 2, soooo...

I think we'll see some jockeying, in both directions, these last 6-7 games.

    Best case somewhat realistic scenario:

    - Rockets win last 2

    - Clippers win last 2

    - Memphis lose to either Golden State or Indiana

    - NOP somehow beat San Antonio

The result then is Clippers 2nd, Rockets 3rd, Spurs 5th with home court and Grizzlies 6th. 1st round Rockets get Memphis, avoiding Golden State and San Antonio until WCF.

The more realistic scenario is that San Antonio win, and then Clippers 2nd, Spurs 3rd, Rockets 5th with home court and Grizzlies 6th. Rockets get Portland again in the first round, and if the result is better than last year Golden State await in the second round.

I don't want to consider the scenarios where the Rockets are the 6th seed.

I kinda like where we sit right now: #5 with homecourt against Portland. I think this gives us the best chance for getting to the 2nd round. I know it means playing GS in the 2nd round, but it's inevitable that the path to the finals is through them anyway. I would much rather face GS after they've possibly taken #8 in 5 games rather than meet them in the WCF after them having ousted someone more worthy in a much grittier battle. Of course any round is going to be a battle for us, so we'll be sufficiently tested if we advance and may be able to steal a road game. Regardless I'll be much more accepting of losing to someone having such a historical season like GS rather than any of the other chumps in the race. The odds are heavily favored that this is how it will shape up anyway, just gotta win against Utah.

Sorry to rain on your parade, RedFaithful, but if the above scenario plays out, then our Rockets end up as the #2 seed vs. Dallas as we would be Division Winners which is the first tiebreaker (Golden State wins the West, LAClippers are 2nd).

This kind of rain makes the parade better :P The world of tie breakers never ceases to surprise me.

The San Antonio vs. New Orleans game has more implications to the Rockets than seeding - if New Orleans loses they probably miss the playoffs and their pick becomes 14 instead of 18. I prefer San Antonio at the 5 spot over better draft location...

I was actually pretty close on my predictions. I said that Rockets would go either 8-3 or 9-2 down the stretch; they went 8-3. I thought they'd split games with the Spurs and lose to the Mavs, but we all know that's not how it worked out.

I thought the Grizzlies would go either 6-4 or 5-5 down the stretch. They went 5-5. They lost all 4 games that I predicted them to lose (they were all against the Warriors, Spurs, and Clips. Easy predictions.) I didn't see the loss to the Wizards coming... that worked out for us.

I never predicted the crazy Spurs charge... same with the Clippers. I'm not sure anybody did though.

Still a bit shocked by the Spurs' loss to the Pelicans. It's a game they mustn't have lost - took away home court, and put them in the worst place they could have landed, 6th against the Clippers. Combine this with the bad performance last night (broke a streak of 11 wins to start a playoff series), and it seems like the uphill battle they fought in the last month took a lot out of them.

In previous years Duncan, Parker and Ginobili rested a few games towards the end of the regular season and that didn't happen this year. Would be interesting to see if they can get to full Spurs playoff mode before it's too late...

When quoting that "11 straight wins to start a playoff series" stat, you have to remember that it's very rare that San Antonio has to play a series where it doesn't have home court advantage. They only have to take one of the two games at Staples Centre to put them in a good position going back to San Antonio. Unlike some of the other series, this game 1 loss doesn't feel like it will necessarily be emblematic of the way the rest of the series goes. I wouldn't expect the Spurs to shoot so poorly in subsequent games, for example.
