Hill for Fisher and a 1st
Flynn, Thabeet, 2nd for Camby
Seems to me that we traded a washed up Tracy McGrady for a washed up Derek Fisher and 2 1st rounders. Then traded Nikola Miriotic and Battier (half year) for Motiejunas, Lowry, Camby.
Pretty good? Replacing Hill with Camby is definitely an upgrade for this year and doesn't hurt our financial flexibility. I'm interested to see if we keep Fisher, at least until Lowry gets back. He has to be better than Flynn, even now.
If we buy out Fisher, then we have to play Lee as the backup point, which means we'll need to slide someone else to backup 2 (Bud?) It could mean minute for Morris or Williams (who somehow survived, maybe Morey still values him?)
I like the deals today - we're a better team this year, and we're still set up about the same for the future. Gotta love that we'll have a shotblocking presence on the floor at almost all times. That means Scola will always have someone to protect him defensively.

But I still have serious, serious concerns about the future direction of this team. I just don't see how they are going to get into the upper echelon.

Why're we buying-out Fisher, again? If he refused to show/play, then I imagine the Rockets wouldn't have had to pay him. He may've even opted out of next season on his own.
Fisher is still owed $3.4MM next season and whatever's left on his $3.4MM this season. If he and Houston negotiated a buyout, it would mean Fisher won't receive all that money -- the team would pay him a portion of it and allow him to become a free agent and sign elsewhere. The benefit for the Rockets is that instead of having Fisher's $3.4MM on their cap next season, they'd only have, say, $1.5MM (or whatever amount they negotiated).

If I'm not mistaken, they'd have nothing on their cap for next season because the buyout would be for the remainder of this year's salary. Next year's salary is just a player option which he can't yet exercise.Fisher is still owed $3.4MM next season and whatever's left on his $3.4MM this season. The Spurs just signed him. Based on Fortson's performance yesterday, today might be his last chance. So given how Fisher hasn't shown up, I'm assuming that the Rockets are going to be looking for a different backup point guard. Maybe Patty Mills, since Portland has just waived his rights? I seem to recall him being a decent PG for Portland...gave us problems when we played them, at least.
