Why so Serious?

I think we will see how it goes in the early portion of the season. I can imagine that the phone calls will be coming in once the hierarchy begins to settle itself and contenders need a center.
Asik would a perfect fit for Miami but they have no cap space.

What would have happened if Asik never got picked up by Morey? Would the Bulls still have had the player he is now? Does Thibodeau know how to shape a defensive player like how he does his team? This is a bit off-topic but I was reminded while reading this.

McHale give an interesting interview here..........says he wants to give Asik 28-30 minutes a night.

says we might see that lineup on the 2nd game of this trip

If Asik Just had McHale's touch around the rim Oh well.
I still believe playing Howard and Asik together can, and will, work. That Interview RBF posted where McHale says he wants to get Asik 28+ minutes per game is very intriguing. I foresee the Rockets doing a "Thunder & Lightning" attack this year. By that I mean we will alternate between fast, small-ball line-ups and than counter with powerful, big line-ups. Once a team shows which it is more susceptible to just ride that wave to the final buzzer. Outside of Indiana and Miami (this one is close), I think we can out-match any team in the league....on paper.

JG I'll tell you what's encouraging.......at the end of last year Asik did start to catch better(now there's only so much you can pad hands of stone ) However it appeared to me he was starting to adjust. if he is indeed improving in that area then the possibilities between him and Howard can be off the charts. Asik knows what to do with the ball when he catches it.......no doubt about that. when Asik and Howard play together that's what I will be watching.......how Asik catches.

If you are thinking about where Asik will end up you have to consider: on what team does he look the best & what goals does that team have for the season. Obviously he looks pretty great on Phillie's roster, but then he might end up helping them win games. So I doubt Philly really wants him.
I think once you go through all the teams Atlanta, Denver, and the Pelicans are the three that jump out. I can't see Denver happening unless the new front office has given up on Danilo as too injury prone. Atlanta and the Pellies are more interesting. I doubt either makes a move before the trade deadline. But Asik looks awful good on those teams.
I think Asik stays for half the season while our front office evaluates the rest of the teams in the league to see if everyone is who we think they are. If there is a team that is surprisingly decent at the mid way point who is in need of a center, the Rockets will be placing a few hundred phone calls.

So in honor of Thorpe's Truehoop video today
http://espn.go.com/b...=espnapi_public
I played around on the trade machine
Warriors: Andrew Bogut for Asik & either TJones or Motie
http://espn.go.com/n...tradeId=qj737jj
Miami Heat: Chris Bosh for Asik & Lin
http://espn.go.com/n...tradeId=nzy4yc9
Of the two I think think the Warriors trade has a slightly higher chance of happening (since both have close to a 0% chance that's not saying much) but in the Warrior's scenario Bogut struggles to stay healthy while playing starters minutes. The Rockets swoop in with Aisk and #insert roughly 1.4 mil in salary here# to give GS a starting center. Bogut maintains his health playing 15-20 minutes a night for us while combining with Dwight to give us 48 min of elite rim protection & post play. While this does nothing for our hole at the 4, it would allow us to play small ball for the full 48 minutes without being terrible on defense & adding a starting caliber backup center to run the offense through on the second unit.
I think Bogut buys in to prove he can stay healthy and get a second chance at being the starter somewhere and Morey flips him for a high upside rookie before the 2014-2015 season

Wouldn't go anywhere near Bogut.
I 2nd that..............Barnes is a nice prospect, but he isn't worth absorbing Bogut's contract even if it is for just 1 year......besides GSW just entered contract talks with Bogut, so it looks like they aren't interested in moving him. Bogut is a nice player when healthy........problem is that's not nearly often enough. BEWARE OF BIG MEN WITH CHRONIC KNEE ANKLE OR FOOT PROBLEMS. they are like kryptonite to superman

Zach Lowe's piece about Bogut mentioned the Rockets as a third team in a trade scenario with either Lin or Asik, though he mentioned that their poison pill contracts would be a stumbling block. If Houston sent Asik to Golden State to help facilitate a deal that sent Bogut out to another team, I'm not sure who would bite as the other team, much less if Morey would be interested in who they were willing to give up. Makes me wonder though, since the Rockets have been known to do some wheelin' and dealin'.

I'd love getting Barnes and sending Bogut to a third team but I'd be shocked if someone took Bogut without sending back a bad contract.
us doing a deal with GSW is very unlikely for a few reasons 1) we play in the same conference and have a little rivalry already brewing 2) the only thing they have that we would be interested in are players they aren't willing to part with....... especially to us 3) the only piece we can give them that they would possibly want that we are also willing to give up is Asik, however problems exist in trying to match contracts between Asik and players we would want like Barnes/Thompson. A third team would absolutely have to be included just for this purpose 4) GSW and Bogut have just started contract talks........I would guess it reasonable to assume that because of that they intend to keep him and just hope he can stay healthy

Again, agreed w RBF....must avoid hi-priced injury prone big men, injury prone big men are destined to stay injury prone. Bosh, definitely interested...3 yrs ago.

I think the hope with Bogut is he puts up great numbers in limited minutes and manages to avoid injury due to his limited minutes. We get to rent him for the year and let him walk or do a sign and trade before next season. I forgot to add Barnes to the trade which would end up being the piece we are really trading for. I think he makes a scary pairing with Chandler at the wing/stretch 4 spot. Miami showed that you can play a season with a big wing as your 4 and not get murdered defensively. But Battier broke down in the playoffs. I think keeping that position fresh with a Parsons/Barnes/Caspi rotation makes us very dangerous. But again I see very little possibility of the trade.
And if we could get Bosh for Asik and filler we make that trade all day. Bosh gets a bad rap but he is just as essential to that team's success as Wade if not more so. I think if Miami were to brake up the big three Wade is the one who get shipped out if he won't take a significantly reworked deal.

This is my dream trade:
Team A:
Gets Omer Asik
Milwaukee Bucks:
Gets a player from team A
Houston Rockets:
Gets Ilyasova

I sure wouldn't mind adding Bosh. The guy gets a bad rap for playing third banana, but he could be great for Houston in exchange for Asik. Imagine a world in which our starting lineup was Howard, Harden, Bosh, Parsons, and either Lin or Beveley with Lin as a sixth man. That's automatically my favorite for a one seed in the West.

Ilyasova would be a good fit (although to be fair any stretch 4 works, pretty much). Bucks would need an SF in that scenario, since that's the position they're most in need (Caron Butler isn't going to get it done at this point in his career). Who's available? Deng? Barnes? Gay maybe?

Who knows, but there should be a team out there that wants Asik enough to either move a good SF or potential lottery pick top 5 protected. It's not like Asik is garbage..
