@  slick shoes : (23 September 2015 - 06:37 PM) kind of late in the day but NBATV is broadcasting classis Rockets games all day today.
@  SadLakerFan : (16 September 2015 - 04:37 AM) Man, as a Laker fan, I'm learning how little you care about the off season when your team sucks. Anyway, a quick moment to remember Moses. Still remember watching the 81 team as a kid - losing record, NBA Finals. I would have cried w/joy if they could have beaten the Celtics.

@  Mario Peña : (13 September 2015 - 05:24 PM) Sad to see Moses pass. I don't remember watching him as a Rocket but I do remember his Philly and Hawks teams. He was the perfect man to mentor Dream. It's a very sad day for his family and friends and there are many.

Once NBA teams can speak with free agents beginning Monday, Miami Heat president Pat Riley has his franchise in strong position to sell Shane Battier(notes) on signing to play with LeBron James(notes) and Dwyane Wade(notes), league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Battier has been a primary target in free agency for the Heat, and sources say the pitch of Riley, coach Erik Spoelstra and key Heat players could ultimately confirm Battier’s strong feelings about chasing a championship in Miami.

This is really surprising. The Heat don't need veteran leadership or perimeter D. They have the two best perimeter defenders in the game with multiple finals appearances. I doubt Wade/Lebron care to hear what Shane says when they've had more success themselves. I get wanting him in there to play Wade at pg in the clutch but what Miami needs is youth and athleticism.

As for Shane, I can see him marginalized quickly. Unfortunate for him that OKC hasn't called because that would have been a great fit.

This would make the Heat infinitely more likable....

This inquiry boils down to two questions; Is Miller coming back, and who better to be on the court in the last moments, Mario or Shane?

If Miller is coming back, there isn't a reason to grab Battier - too duplicative. However, if we're talking switching the two, then Battier is a great pickup. Between Wade and Bron they don't need a PG's handling in the last few minutes, and Battier/Wade can handle D duties on PGs. I trust Battier over Mario to make smart choices, hit big shots, and grab boards in the last minutes of a game.

There was an article on TrueHoop or somewhere that explained the importance of Chalmers to the Heat. Might have been from Hollinger.
