@  cointurtlemoose : (23 October 2015 - 04:36 PM) Hey if yall want a good podcast to listen to, find the Dunc'd On Basketball Podcast on Itunes, Rahat just did a Rockets preview with the host.
@  majik19 : (13 October 2015 - 09:09 PM) Apparently we claimed Arsalan Kazemi off waivers from the Hawks today... yet another undersized (6'7") power forward for Morey's cupboard.
@  Mario Peña : (10 October 2015 - 01:12 PM) If your part if the Red94 Fantasy Basketball League check the thread to vote for the date and time for the draft event. Thanks y'all!

@  slick shoes : (07 October 2015 - 06:50 PM) Kobe ranked one spot higher than Ariza? Is this based on legacy or...??
@  slick shoes : (07 October 2015 - 04:13 PM) It was hard to keep up with both the Astros and Rockets at the same time. Should be interesting on Thursday with the Texans and Astros on simultaneously.
@  Mario Peña : (07 October 2015 - 04:09 PM) It was fun to have the Rockets on last night! Right now I'm watching the Celtics versus Milan and Alessandro Gentile is impressive.
@  jorgeaam : (06 October 2015 - 07:47 PM) Well, thinking twice about it, I'd rather have him score less and have the team as a whole do better. Lawson should take a lot of his load off
@  jorgeaam : (06 October 2015 - 07:47 PM) Loving that, hope he hits 30 PPG this year

@  Mario Peña : (06 October 2015 - 02:35 PM) Alright guys, if anyone is interested in joining the Red94 fantasy basketball league we could use one more player to get us to 10 teams (or three to get us to 12 teams). Just check the thread in the Fantasy Basketball forum. Thanks!

@  thejohnnygold : (29 September 2015 - 05:16 AM) FYI, it was media day today. Interviews are up at NBA.com
@  slick shoes : (23 September 2015 - 06:37 PM) kind of late in the day but NBATV is broadcasting classis Rockets games all day today.
@  SadLakerFan : (16 September 2015 - 04:37 AM) Man, as a Laker fan, I'm learning how little you care about the off season when your team sucks. Anyway, a quick moment to remember Moses. Still remember watching the 81 team as a kid - losing record, NBA Finals. I would have cried w/joy if they could have beaten the Celtics.

I was over in another thread reading some of TTDN thoughts and it got me thinking. withal of the offseason moves that have been made by western conference teams what is the expected fallout? I only ask that each of you understand that no one is right until the outcome of the games next year so be respectful of other's opinions  I will get us started

1. OKC......while I expect them to be suspect in the playoffs they are a great  regular season team returning a lot of last years team. how they answer the scoring off the bench problem is big for them

2. the Spurs........ditto OKC except add the age factor

3. Houston......if I get to much into this it will sound like I'm bragging  if I'm a little to deep someone throw me a life line  I love this team......well even Lin a little too  but for different reasons(like trade bait)but I won't get into that. we are STACKED. the only reason I have us at 3 is because I'm giving a little time for this team to find it's footing, but once we do.......I already predicted parade in downtown next year so you know how I feel

4.the Clippers........I like what they have done this year and Doc can only be considered the X factor. I think at some point  we will have to deal with them.

5. Golden State......I like the acquisition of Iggy, but I think they have underestimated the value of J-Jack and Landry and it will cost them

6.Memphis........losing your coach can't be considered positive. they are a big ? mark. I think they rode the luck of the draw to last years success. I don't think it will happen again

7. Dallas......if Dirk stay healthy next year they are here (IMO) they made a run last year at the end with a worse team....they'll be in the thick of it this year

8. Minny.......same as Dallas healthy players is most important

worthy of mention............NO, Denver,

I will present my playoff team rankings later when I have more time to write but with regards to your list I believe Dallas is out and Denver is in. Denver's home court advantage cannot be disregarded. When teams play there back to backs after crossing multiple time zones in a couple days Denver wins. Denver is set up again to win a large percentage of their home games and once Galinari is back they will knock someone out of the playoffs down the stretch.

    Portland
    Dallas

Pretty good list. Imo the top 6 are practically interchangeable because the gap in wins between them will be so small. I've got Minnesota, Portland, Denver, and Dallas fighting for the last 2 spots. I think Stotts is a terrible coach for Portland, and I don't know about Denver's coach, so my bet's on Dallas and Minnesota.

Thunder or Spurs will be 1st and 2nd

      3. Houston

      4. Clippers will be 4th because they will not have any defense and they have no other bigs besides Blake and Deandre who is pretty bad.

      5. GS

      6. Grizzlies

      7. Timberwolves

      8. Blazers or Nuggets

          1. OKC

          2. Houston

          3. Clippers

          4. Spurs

          5. Memphis

          6. GSW

          7. Wolfs

          8. Blazers

          9. Mavs

          10. Denver

Detroit is in the mix, but it's a open question if their square pegs fit round holes. they have a lot of question as to if their cast fits properly. and it's also a question if Jenning's disastrous defense last year was a fluke or not.

The first 5 spot in the East is pretty locked up, it's going to be

                  Heat

                  Pacers

                  Bulls

                  Nets

                  Knicks

                  roughly in that order.

the last 3 spot is up in the air, the Hawks and Wizards probably have a leg up on other teams. but the Pistons / Bucks / Raptors / Cavs are all plausible playoff teams with questions needing answers. my guess would be

                  Heat

                  Pacers

                  Bulls

                  Nets

                  Knicks

                  Hawks

                  Wizards

                  Raptors

                  Pistons

                  Cavs

                  Bucks

                  Celtics

                  Bobcats

                  Magic

                  Sixers

I have the Raptors surprising and making the final spot. my rational is that Rudy Gay probably bounce back to a still overpaid but solid player. Lowry hopefully finally puts it mostly together at long last, and they have a very very sneaky underrated front court in Valecunas (aka what you hope Dmo becomes.) and Amir Johnson (he's basically a sneaky Paul Milsap that nobody noticed.) their fit is less of a question, their health is not as great of a concern, and they don't have blatantly open holes, while also have pretty deep roster with pretty high upside.

(The Raptor's fit is still a little bit of an issue as both Gay and Derozon are ball hoggers and Lowry uses the ball considerably as well, but at least what they do well compliments each other , assuming that Gay's eye surgery return him to being an above average 3 point shooter.)

it appears most here believe the top six in the west are solid.........even though the order is slightly different they are OKC, Houston, the Spurs, the Clippers, GSW and Memphis. also most of us believe these teams will fight for the last two slots......Denver, Dallas, NO, Portland. I see RollingWave got us started on the east

I guess there is also the off chance that Kobe really comes back very early and defy all logic and being still effective, which might put the Lakers in the conversation if Nash and Pau is also healthy, however that's super unlikely

Have you seen their team?! They're terrible!

Yes they are, but supposedly if you have a healthy Kobe / Nash / Pau trio that should at least score enough to compete, but I'm very skeptical of them being able to defend at all, however, I think folks are underselling how good their offense could be, if those 3 are actually effective, all they need to do is to be not a bottom 5 defense to at least be in the 8th seed conversation, I think the odds of all those things lining up is terribly low (aka, the big 3 healthy, effective, AND their defense doesn't suck. ) it doesn't help that their coach is notorious for his inability to coach any semblance of defense.

Here's my projected standings for next season :

                          1. Oklahoma City Thunder
                          2. San Antonio Spurs
                          3. Los Angeles Clippers
                          4. Houston Rockets
                          5. Golden State Warriors
                          6. Memphis Grizzlies
                          7. Denver Nuggets
                          8. Los Angeles Lakers

                          9. New Orleans Pelicans
                          10. Minnesota Timberwolves
                          11. Portland Trailblazers
                          12. Dallas Mavericks
                          13. Sacramento Kings
                          14.Phoenix Suns
                          15. Utah Jazz

Barring injury, I don't see why the Bucks would finish that bad, people seem to miss that their best player 3 best player last year was Larry Sanders / Ersan Ilyasova and John Henson.  all 3 are still on the team and 2 of them is likely to get better. Monta Ellis for OJ Mayo is a wash essentially, they did downgrade a little going from Jennings to Knight.. maybe (Knight is much better defensively.) but it's not like the Bucks offense were running well with Jennings.

The Hawks essentially swapped Smith for Paul Milsap which is a lateral move at worst, and maybe even an improvement as Milsap is much more complete offensive player. I can't see them missing the playoffs without injuries.

On the otherhand, I figure for the Wizards or Cavs to make it they need their guys to show better health than they've had in recent years, while I have some confidence in the Wizards, the Cavs is a different story, when your 2 best player played 50 and 0 games last year, penciling them in for anything is a terrible idea.
