Meet Your New Franchise Player - Over at Grantland, netw3rk dug up Dwight Howard\'s old autobiography from the Magic\'s website. Here\'s an excerpt from the textus receptus of Dwight:
Quote:
Orlando Magic center Dwight David Howard Jr. is not just a basketball player. He is one of the most charismatic and thus popular basketball player on earth. His muscular physique resembles a 6’11 bronze statue of Apollo. His resume belies his 24 years of age while reading like the first chapter of a sports monopoly. The home grown Atlanta, Georgian has pillared his brand on ferocious dunks and electric smiles.
Good Lord. This was online as late as October 2011, and is clearly the work of a man to whom the word \"no\" is foreign. A lot has passed under the bridge since Howard\'s Orlando days, and hopefully the passage of time brought some self-awareness. Fingers crossed.
Shining Moments - Andrew Unterberger at The Basketball Jones is ticking off the 100 best moments of the 2012-13 season. The latest entry features a lot of James Harden: his 46-7-6 against the Thunder and the 82 points in his first two games in red. As Unterberger writes:
Quote:
“Can James Harden be a first option on offense?” Took all of 96 minutes of game action to get an official answer on that one.
Summer League - Another day, another win, this time beating the Celtics 85-78. Some of the prospects showed a little more statistical promise than the last game (where no one scored over 11). Robert Covington notched a double-double (11 pt.-10 reb.), Vander Blue had 16 (warning: on 15 shots), and Terrence Jones led the team in scoring with 17 after parking at the free throw line for 1o points on 14 FT\'s. Perhaps the most important takeaway was that Jones once again went 1-2 from behind the arc, making him look more and more attractive as a running mate for Howard.
Get Well Soon: Isaiah Canaan has missed Summer League so far because of a sprained ankle, but he got some major love from Bill Simmons and Chad Ford on a recent B.S. Report:
Quote:
Bill Simmons: \"Isaiah Canaan was one of my favorite late first-rounders in the draft. Like, I just think he\'s going to be a rotation guy, and he\'s going to be an Irrational Confidence guard off the bench. I\'ve seen his type of player succeed before.\"
Chad Ford: \"Really liked Canaan. Thought that that was probably the best second round pick of the night.\"
Isaiah Canaan: Sports Guy Approved.
