I think the Denver Nuggets are rebuilding, and they want new kids and expiring contracts. The trade suggestions are not acceptable to the Nuggets management. In order the acquire Melo, the Rockets must offer future picks. The Rockets must also take KMart and JR Smith as well. I do not know how the Rockets will do this, but I think the Nuggets will consider some low-salaried players as well.

not to mention the fact that this team with yao is better than the last team yao played on two years ago which couldve beaten the eventual champion lakers if yao hadn't gone down with an injury. that's a huge indicator.

thats what ive been saying. hard to know what needs changing when you havent seen this team play together with yao, the piece of the puzzle which could change the whole outlook. no trade right now will necessarily take us from almost good enough to top contender, so we should do more research and let the team grow before changing anything else.

Great post.

1 small error, Jason Kidd was always a terrible 3 ball shooter until now.

Otherwise I agree completely. I think we need to give these guys a chance to settle down and jell. We've been changing our core constantly for the past two-three years sometimes by force (T-Mac, Ron Ron), and sometimes by choice (Landry, Ariza). I think we should let this team grow for a season together.

If things don't pan out, with Yao coming off the books, next season is when we decide to have a firesale.

I've always been astounded by Billups' apparent statistical productivity according to advanced metrics. By win shares he was one of the top 3 point guards in the league last year, yet watching him (and the nuggets as a whole) play, it seems like he lacks any type of basketball IQ. Pull up contested 3s with time on the shot clock (a trend repeating in this year's FIBA) and a lot of ISO offense just makes it seem baffling to me of how he ranks up their with the top point guards.

Beyond the eye test, BIllups declined (according to the Nuggets truehoop blogger anyway) precipitously near the end of the last 2 seasons and at 34 with him currently playing in FIBA that has historically drained NBA players for the upcoming season, it seems unlikely he will be able to sustain his productivity for the entirety of the year.

Finally, I agree with the author's assessment that a better deal could be had for the same package. Aaron Brooks alone may have a higher trade value than Billups right now given their respective ages and Billups price tag.

LP did something great this past season in replaying games a couple of times. Makes it much easier to watch East Coast games and you can re-watch a game to see if what you thought you saw was really there.

On the other hand...
Carmelo has led Denver into Playoffs every yr.
Martin had one taste in his second season(and put up some ugly numbers) and never led Sac to a .500 record,much less the Playoffs as their #1 or 1A option.(He was only 12-12 as a Rocket.)
We better hope Martin isn't the puts up numbers on bad teams kind of player. At some point the final scoreboard trumps nice efficiency stats.

Outstanding rahut, your analysis and writing is just getting better, I'm back in this year, about to get league pass and find the time to watch them all, might even try to write myself. Really want to see how such an efficient scorer in Martin can play with Yao and also how the both their FT line threat can help us win close games, also intrigued by which pg will work with YaoMart. Also bud and patto seem like interesting fits with YaoMart.
