More Vipers Coverage

One of our readers, Bob Schmidt, has a blog where he will be providing coverage on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Houston Rockets’ D-league affiliate.

Bob is a native of the Rio Grande Valley and has lived in Brownsville for the past 30 years.  In an email, he explains his motivations:

Even though I live 60 miles from the Viper’s venue, I am exposed to local media news relating to the Vipers. Through Futurecast, I watch many of the live-streamed Viper games and enjoy the opportunity to watch future Rocket’s players develop through the NBADL. My blog will examine the upcoming season as it unfolds, noting the unique relationship shared by the Rockets and the Vipers. As I satisfy my own curiosity about how the Rockets and Vipers relationship really works, I will be sharing that information with those who read my blog.

Because of the unique partnership the Rockets have entered with the Vipers, we are really looking forward to this coverage.

Thanks for the positive comment Michael, and my thanks to Rahat for the exposure. As info surfaces that seems interesting, I'll be putting it out there. It will be interesting to see if any other NBA teams adopt the Rocket's hybrid relationship this upcoming year.

One thing I will forewarn everyone, I'm pro Rockets and pro Vipers. My slant on things will probably reflect that in obvious ways, but I always respect other opinions.

Thanks Rahat and thanks Bob for contributing that! I think it's a very interesting relationship between the Rockets and the Vipers and it's my opinion that it's going to be one of the "soft" assets that differentiates us and many other teams in the League. It's a perfect place to put rookies, development players (as the league title NBDL would suggest), and rotation players returning from long layoffs to put themselves in a near-NBA environment running sets that the Rockets will be running. I'm excited and can't wait to see how this all plays out!
