LaMarcus Aldridge expanding game?

Thanks to a reader for passing on this tidbit about everyone’s favorite Rockets trade target:

This was interesting for no other reason than that I’ve argued in the past against an acquisition of Aldridge due to his reliance on the midrange shot.  (He led the league in attempts from that distance last season.)  There’s certainly precedence for a jumpshooting big expanding his range: look no further than former Patrick Patterson who hit 16 of 36 for 44% from deep, last season with the Sacramento Kings.  If Aldridge can show some level of proficiency from the longer distance, all bets are off; Morey would be salivating.  Something to keep an eye on as well as, of course, the Blazers’ record.

  • Cooper says 1 YEAR ago Trading parsons in a LMA deal just makes our sf spot a weakness instead of pf. That said I'd be totally shocked if we could get LMA with asik and picks or whatever.

I disagree.......Parson will not be traded. where else can we find his production at his price? I don't think the Rockets are in a position of desperation. therefore they would consider any deal with Parsons a non starter. they will not weaken one position to build up another. if the price goes over the assets I mentioned......I don't see the trade happening. Morey is very smart. he knows what kind of deal will benefit the Rockets without damaging another position and will not settle for less than something that works for us

    Rockets Best Fan...

Don't get me wrong, I don't know if I would do that trade but that was just my guess of what it would take to get LMA here.

Also, don't think that because Portland had Batum that Parsons won't get traded to get LMA, if it ever does happen. A 3rd team could be brought in to make the deal work and take Parsons.

It is just that LMA is a borderline all star every year. his value is not low enough to be able to give up Asik and other parts to get without throwing in something significant.

I agree that Parsons is core but don't assume that his "coreness" will overrule the opportunity to trade for a top PF if the opportunity arrives.

Most people would trade Parsons and Asik for Love....and I can't say I disagree. Granted then Garcia is our weakest starter but at this point the pair of Parsons and Jones is weaker than Garcia and Love, etc...

Honestly, I don't think Morey waits until Aldridge proves he can shoot threes before he starts salivating. If LMA proves he can shoot threes in Portland, then his trade value increases to a prohibitively high level. Trading for him would be like buying stock in Apple six months after the iPhone came out. If LMA is developing a three-point shot, Morey will try to pressure them into trading him now before he can showcase his skill in games. Also, Portland only trades LMA if they decide to tank. They will either make that decision now, or play wait-and-see until February.

My immediate thought is that how does Rip City play that will put the ball in LMA's hands in the 3 point game?

Maybe a pick and pop play with PG?
They don't have the low post threat in Lopez to really help LMA get open.

It just seems to me that their game is built primarily on LMA at the elbow or lower in the post....not at the 3 point line. I think it may take him playing on an inside outside team based around a true offensive treat at center to really see how he can help.

All that being said, I didn't think LMA would be the best addition to this team if his game was the same as it has been for his rightly high price tag....however, if he can really provide great spacing for Dwight...then that makes him 100% more valuable.

We can then rotate him and Howard throughout the game to give them rest and still keep a post game. A truely deadly combination...then bring them in together with Parsons and Harden at the end to make teams pick their poison.

Do you think we could trade for him and still keep Parsons? My guess is not. My guess is it will be Parsons and Asik and maybe a draft pick for LMA and Lopez...if the numbers can mesh.

I was totally with you until you drop Parsons in that trade :lol:first....Portland won't be interested in Parsons because they already have Batum at SF. second.......Houston considers Parsons part of their core group so it's really unlikely they would move him. third......we don't want Lopez. if we wanted him we could have gotten him and R-Anderson from the Pelicans for Asik straight up. I'm all for a LMA trade, but only at the right price. if it's going to cost anything over Lin+Asik+draft picks and may be toss in G-Smith or D-Mo...........I would pass.............and I would really have to think about that D-Mo part :P
