What the poster articulated is my main concern as well. This is not to say that Brooks does not have merits. He’s a great weapon who has proven he can consistently create for himself at this level.

The problem is that his talents don’t quite mesh too well with Yao’s game and his weaknesses are augmented with the latter’s presence. Brooks won’t have the same lanes to drive with Yao in the middle because the paint will be clogged and he also won’t have the ball in his hands nearly as much. As a player who needs the ball in his hands to score, can he be as effective and efficient in such a reduced role?

In addition, Brooks is an extremely poor post-entry passer, to the point that the team had to always use Artest and Battier to feed Yao when Aaron was at the point. If Brooks can’t feed Yao, and also won’t have the same opportunities to score, is his value fully being utilized in Houston? Would that $8million he will probably be due be better spent elsewhere, especially given that Kyle Lowry, a great passer, is already signed for $6million?

Aaron Brooks’ value is at an all-time high. I personally worry that if the team waits too long to explore a deal, his value could diminish if his play suffers. Teams will know that last year’s “improvement” was largely due to usage-inflation and he won’t any longer be as highly regarded as he currently is. Daryl Morey won’t rush to make a bad deal, but I don’t think he will hesitate to trade Aaron if the right deal comes along.

after quoting the 141st comment that was also translated above:

After Yao coming back, not only Brooks' scoring will suffer, his assist numbers will go down as well. In any Yao-centric system, the low post is going to be clogged, and this will make it hard for Brooks to drive-and-dish. Also, his inability to make the entry pass will also mean the ball will be someone else's hands more.

Brooks really has nothing to gain by staying in Houston. if his scoring suffers too much, his play last season will be questioned and potentially be regarded as a classic "good player on bad team who looks better than he really is" situation.

We could probably see Brooks' real value in the upcoming season: two seasons ago his stats wasn't outstanding nor consistent; last season he made a big jump but that was largely due to the increased usage -- but we should note that his efficiency didn't suffer much even with the increase of usage; with Yao coming back this season, as well as Martin demands ball as well, lets see if Brooks can keep on improving on his offensive efficiency and passing. If he can continue to improve, then a $7-8 M contract should be worth it.
