Huq’s Pen: Sunday’s game will be the test (comments re-opened)

When the Rockets meet the Heat in Miami on Sunday, there will have been few clashes as divergent in combatant nature.  The Heat will pound the ball with two of the league’s three best forces while Houston will share it amongst several relative unknowns.  Sunday’s game will be the test.  If the Rockets win, it could be enough of a boost to propel them to the postseason.

Courtney Lee will have his hands full defending the much bigger Lebron James.  It’s possible that Kyle Lowry will be called upon to cover Dwayne Wade if Kevin Martin struggles early.  Chuck Hayes should have no problem defending Chris Bosh.

On offense, the team will need to be clicking on all cylinders, as it has been for the better part of the season, to withstand the Heat.  They’ll feed Scola early and often and serve up sufficient helpings of backdoor movement and off the ball cuts; early offense will be a must.

The Rockets are a much deeper, better balanced team than the Heat so they will have to use that superiority in numbers to wear out their opponent.

I just have a gut feeling this team will win.  I see Patterson and Dragic running the Heat reserves off the court.  I see Martin matching Lebron’s drives with 3 point flurries and Lowry drawing contact at pace with Wade.  I just have a feeling.

And man, does this feel good, this micro-analysis.  I’m a fan.  I’m tired of waiting until next year and analyzing cap flexibility or the next potential trade target.  I want to talk about the games like they matter and now, they do matter.  The Rockets are right in this thing and are in the hunt.  At this time of year, that’s all you can ask for.
