Houston Rockets pulled into Chris Bosh S&T talks: Tyson Chandler to Houston?

Ken Berger:

The trade, which is still exploratory and not close to completion, would send Bosh to Miami, Michael Beasley to Charlotte and Tyson Chandler to Houston, the sources said. Toronto, already settled on taking back the 2011 first-round pick previously traded to the Heat, is trying to extract a player from the Rockets in addition to the trade exception it would get from Miami.

Update via Chronicle:

The trade, however, was on very shaky footing, according to the individual with knowledge of the talks, with the teams waiting for decisions from Toronto president and general manager Bryan Colangelo and James.

Besides the fact that he would fill a desperate need, the greater value in a Chandler acquisition is that he is a $12.6million expiring contract, arming the club with ~$20million of expiring deals for a mid-season blockbuster.  1560’s David Nuno reported that for now, the deal is dead, but my guess is that that status is most likely contingent upon Lebron’s decision later tonight.

    Here some more info

A four-team trade involving the Bobcats, Heat, Rockets and Raptors has reportedly been discussed.

Sources say Michael Beasley and Jared Jeffries would be sent to Charlotte, with Tyson Chandler going to Houston.

The move would create more cap space for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

One source indicates Toronto is uninterested in taking on approximately $3.1 million in salary from the Rockets.

The Raptors would like to acquire a trade exception.

You should rename it to the Lebron guessing game. No offense but that’s played out to the point where Hilton is giving their 2 cents.

I could definitely be happy with what’s going on here. If indeed Chandler is healthy, he could be all we need. As long as he is healthier than Brad Miller is old. If it means Les has to fork over 3 mil plus to Toronto, then it should be a no brainer. Hasn’t Morey had his sights on him for some time now?

Problem is that Tyson + Yao will probably make for an entire season. We need someone who can stay healthy.

    Kade,
$12.7mill expiring contract. Anything he brings on the court is just gravy.

  • Alituro

I can stay healthy, we need somebody to help play Center.

So this is simply a salary dump and we are going to throw away this upcoming season and look for next year?

    Kade,
No. The deal would give us over $20mill in expiring contracts, making us even more of a player at the trade deadline for potential deals. Its only gravy that Chandler can also play and fills a huge need.

says TOR is not interested in taking any salary off Rockets hands

  • Blake

    Kade,

Not at all. It would be an acquisition of assets. Even if Chandler never sets foot on the court, we will have traded a $6.8 million expiring for a $12.6 million expiring. That sets us up for even more possibilities at the trade deadline or before. We still have the MLE, as well.

Who are the other player(s) that you are getting 20mm in expiring contracts? I believe Jeffries will be included in the trade.

    Rahat is slick that way…

and if he passes physical and is deemed healthy, he would seem the best candidate available thus far especially given the trade flexibility of his contract. Players and team management should work smart to prevent further injuries, but not run scared because of some supposition of the inevitability of such an event.

Deal seems to be off for now though.

Chandler and Paul are good friends…makes you wonder…=)

But in either case Chandler would be good to stroll out against the LA Towers, or others. Would be good to be able to get an improvement and insurance defender in the post out of the FA maneuvering. Even if James does go to Miami – the Rockets have Battier and Ariza to guard the swingmen and then Yao back to mess with Bosh.

Relatively good position relative to other teams I think.

btw, is chandler a good low post defender, shot blocker? i know he stinks on offense only doing alley oops, but more concerned with his defense when we go up against the lakers.

    Darren,
Chandler is known for 3 things:
    Defense
    Rebounding
    Zero offense

There are no Rockets making $3mil.
To match Chandler Jeffries,Andersen,non-guaranteed Alexander Johnson does work.

i think it’s cute how toronto is trying to ‘extract’ a player. yo rahat, bill simmons posted the following today on his blog and i was curious to get your two cents.

“If one more person refers to Bosh as a “superstar,” I’m going to scream. His résumé: seven seasons, 11 career playoff games, one second-team All-NBA selection, never played in a big game in his life other than the gold-medal game of the 2008 Olympics. Now he’s fleeing frigid Toronto for South Beach, no state income tax, Dwyane Wade, max money and the playoffs … and this makes him a “superstar”? Did we really drop our standards that low?

“Look, I need my NBA superstar to sell tickets, generate interest locally and nationally, single-handedly guarantee an average supporting cast 45-50 wins, and potentially be the best player on a Finals team if the other pieces are in place, which means only LeBron, Wade, Howard, Durant and Kobe qualify. There’s a level just a shade below (the Almost-But-Not-Quite-Superstar) with Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony, Brandon Roy, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. (Note: I think Derrick Rose gets there next season.) Then you have elite guys like Bosh, Pau Gasol and Amare Stoudemire who need good teammates to help them thrive … and if they don’t have them, you’re heading to the lottery.”
