Houston Chronicle: Chuck Hayes out for 2-4 weeks

From Chron. com:

The Rockets have lost another center to another ankle injury.

Chuck Hayes, who has stepped in to the starting lineup with Yao Ming out, injured his right ankle in the closing minutes of Thursday’s practice. Hayes landed on the foot of guard Ish Smith on a drive and immediately went down.

Hayes was diagnosed with a moderate to severe right ankle sprain and will be out for two to four weeks before he would resume on-court workouts.

Yikers. I had been hoping for an influx of Jordan Hill and his ambiguous talents, and it looks like the Rockets will be eating a steady diet of that in upcoming weeks. Given the Rockets’ ridiculous schedule next month, Hill’s play could really determine the team’s chances of entering the playoff fray in a Western Conference featuring one of the worst defenses of all-time and a team also tragically and indefinitely missing its best player vying for the eighth seed with Houston. Maybe this year, misery will spare Houston or at least deal its rivals greater blows; even if that’s the wretched case, I won’t be sending the basketball gods any fruit baskets for any of it.
