@  bboley24 : (09 January 2014 - 03:53 AM) How long have you been watching these Rockets Haze? New to the team?
@  HazeWinkle : (09 January 2014 - 02:00 AM) they are getting beat by the lakers.
@  thenit : (09 January 2014 - 01:55 AM) We are so cold from 3s the past month
@  HazeWinkle : (09 January 2014 - 01:24 AM) rtockets are full of idiots knocking the ball away from each other on a rebound
@  thenit : (09 January 2014 - 01:20 AM) They are cheating off brewer so much that's it's almost 4 on 5 when we have the ball
@  RollingWave : (08 January 2014 - 03:19 AM) I think something like this would work, objective for Bulls mainly to get under the tax, maybe a 2nd thrown in by either us or Toronto to them.
@  RollingWave : (08 January 2014 - 03:19 AM) http://espn.go.com/n...tradeId=pjeyjzk
@  feelingsuper... : (08 January 2014 - 03:03 AM) Dunleavy would be a great pick up and a good guy from the locker room to the 3 point line.
@  RollingWave : (08 January 2014 - 01:06 AM) Woj report that we are trying to trade Dmo (expected) , clutchfan rumor that we are trying to get Dunlevy (logical)
@  majik19 : (08 January 2014 - 12:14 AM) No way Houston goes for Boozer. Would Houston make a play for Bynum? I doubt it - we don't need two injured backup centers. And his attitude would not sit well with this team.
@  rm90025 : (07 January 2014 - 05:34 PM) Also wonder if Bynum ends up with the Heat or the Clippers. That could give either team a game changing lift over the competition.
@  rm90025 : (07 January 2014 - 05:33 PM) I wonder if Bulls move Boozer now and if Houston gets involved.
@  rocketrick : (07 January 2014 - 10:38 AM) Luol Deng is an Unrestricted Free Agent after this season. Did the Bulls receive Max Value for him in this trade?
@  Dayak : (07 January 2014 - 05:59 AM) The Cavs turned 24 games of Andrew Bynum into an All-Star small forward in Deng. The Bulls will save $15M+, get below tax, get future 1st.
@  Dayak : (07 January 2014 - 05:59 AM) Brian Windhorst:
@  Buckko : (04 January 2014 - 09:42 PM) If Hazewinkle used mediocre at best to describe the rockets right now, I wonder what his opinions on the Texans were.
@  Opasido : (04 January 2014 - 08:49 PM) Shouldve crushed the knicks though. They were on B2B and melo injured, rockets were pretty refreshed. oh well
@  rocketrick : (04 January 2014 - 02:48 PM) If the Rockets are truly "mediocre at best" per Hazewinkle, what does that mean for the rest of the NBA (22/30 teams with lower winning % than us)?
@  RollingWave : (04 January 2014 - 12:44 PM) With Lin, I notice he looked like he took a hit or something early in the 3rd. that and/or maybe Tyson Chandler figured out something with how he play screens and out smarted him
@  RollingWave : (04 January 2014 - 12:43 PM) for all the crap he took Garcia played pretty well this game, Smith was really quite but managed to defend the paint pretty well too

New post: Los Angeles Lakers @ Houston Rockets 1/8/14
    By: Eric Nielsen

With all the days off the Rockets have had over the last couple of weeks, fans are hoping for a reboot.  So far, the Rockets are perfect in the new year.  We’re all hoping that the cohesion between players has started and that the team is ready to make a run.  Remember how the Lakers came together at the end of the year and started winning after claiming Howard had integrated with Kobe and the rest of the Lakers?  Is that the Rocket's fate this year?  Is Howard gelling better with Harden, Lin and Parsons?  That’s the thing I’m looking for as the Rockets play five games in the next seven days.  The Laker game is the only one at home, but all of the games are winnable for the Rockets. As Rahat likes to say, the Rockets should win these games, so they probably won’t.

Maybe the time off has helped to heal Asik and Smiths’ knees.  Unfortunately Parsons now has a knee issue and is questionable for Wednesday.  Smith is also questionable.  The time has given our injured players some time to heal but with Beverley and Asik still out, the Rockets continue to play from behind the eight ball where injuries are concerned.  Everybody has missed games this year except for Howard.  Man, where would the Rockets be without Howard?  Harden hasn’t played in six games this year, Beverley ten, Lin ten, Asik 18 and Smith hasn’t played in 26 games.

Hollinger has the Rockets odds at making the playoffs right now at 65.8%.  That’s eighth in the West.  I’m starting to worry about a middle of the pack finish.  Until the Rockets can get a sustained effort for a month or so, they will sit in the middle in the West and at risk of another first round exit in the playoffs.  This seems the most likely outcome unless something changes in the second half of the season.  In six more games the season will be half over and it’s getting more and more difficult to move positions in the battle for home court advantage.  It’s been so up and down this year that they’ve been both fun and hard to watch.  Getting Howard has raised expectations but they are only on track to win 51.5 games.  That’s still 6.5 games more than they won last year, but with a stacked deck in the West it’s going to take some magic to even win a series in the post season.

The Lakers are going to be playing the second of a back to back on the road on Wednesday.  They still haven’t recovered from hiring D’Antoni instead of Phil Jackson.  I know I’ve said it in the past, but this was the first piece of business the new Lakers management handled and they botched it magnificently.  I live in Southern California and the Lakers have not recovered from this error.  It’s still the hot topic on talk radio in California.  Two of the biggest repercussions of their mistake are Howard being in Houston, he never would have left a team that Phil coached, and Kobe’s injuries.  D’Antoni mismanaged Kobe’s minutes so poorly and that led to Kobe’s injury.

Now the Lakers top scorer is Nick Young at 16.6 a game and a PER of 15.2.  The only standard they have left from the old days is Pau Gasol, and they nearly traded him for a Bynum salary dump.  Kobe and Nash have both only played six games this year and they’ve had massive injury issues besides that.  Blake has missed 14 games and Kaman is out of favor with D’Antoni and has only played in 18 games.  One bright spot they have in the past couple of games is PG Kendall Marshall who dished 17 assists against the Nuggets and 15 against the Jazz.  But he’s only played in 6 games for the Lakers this year.  Gasol has been playing well lately, but this season is an uphill battle for the team.

The Lakers are 3 and 7 in their last ten and sit third from the bottom in the West.  It’s going to be a long season for the Lakers and the talk in So Cal is all about if the Lakers tank or not.  The Gasol Bynum deal added a lot of fuel to that fire but in the end the Lakers decided to gut it out and see if they can get healthy and make a run for the eighth seed.  I wish we could have watched Jackson take a run at this old guys club.  But, as a Rockets fan it’s fun to watch the Lakers struggle!  This is a game the Rockets should win.  It’s a kind of game the Rockets must start to win if they are going to make any moves.  Let’s hope the practice time shows.

Thanks Eric, enjoyed your perspective. On sports talk radio out there do you here much about expectations to bring any particular free agents to the Lakers in the next year or two?

There is some talk about the Lakers and Anthony.  Of course they all dream about LeBron but no one is too hopeful.  Besides being the Lakers and being in LA there doesn't seem to be a draw now.  Kobe is almost done, his salary is to heavy to compete, they don't have a coach and they don't have the players.

Second night of a road back to back for the Lakers? Missing Nash, Kobe, Blake, and Farmar? Pau Gasol running on fumes and the ground beef he calls feet? Relying on hot perimeter shooting on dead legs? Less talented, less chemistry and less cohesion? Yeah, there's pretty much no possible way the Lakers can win this... as long as the Rockets show up at all.

          Uh oh.

Painful performance by the Lakers, although Gasol looked decent. What a mess.

I think I found the key for our success this year... I need stop watching the games! I was watching the game in the first half, and it was miserable. Ran to the store at halftime... And when I got home, we had a commanding lead; however, I started watching the game again and dwight put on a brick-show to make things uncomfortable... In order to test my hypothesis, I walked away from the game again, and he actually sunk two!!!

I'll take one for the team next game and watch shark tank or something, so we can earn an easy victory in ATL

Considering Ronnie brewer played 23min it wasn't too ugly of a game. Hard to believe they got to 113 with brewer and the ghost of Sacramento's Fransico Garcia filling in the sf rotation.

Brewer with zero point had to fill in for Parsons with 17 PPG. The depth at SF make me really really worried.
