@  jorgeaam : (07 October 2015 - 08:47 PM) Guys we need 1 more owner for the Red94 fantasy league, if interested please comment on the post in the fantasy basketball thread
@  slick shoes : (07 October 2015 - 06:50 PM) Kobe ranked one spot higher than Ariza? Is this based on legacy or...??
@  slick shoes : (07 October 2015 - 04:13 PM) It was hard to keep up with both the Astros and Rockets at the same time. Should be interesting on Thursday with the Texans and Astros on simultaneously.
@  Mario Peña : (07 October 2015 - 04:09 PM) It was fun to have the Rockets on last night! Right now I'm watching the Celtics versus Milan and Alessandro Gentile is impressive.
@  jorgeaam : (06 October 2015 - 07:47 PM) Well, thinking twice about it, I'd rather have him score less and have the team as a whole do better. Lawson should take a lot of his load off
@  jorgeaam : (06 October 2015 - 07:47 PM) Loving that, hope he hits 30 PPG this year
@  thejohnnygold : (06 October 2015 - 06:15 PM) Someone is feeling confident :) : LINK
@  jorgeaam : (06 October 2015 - 05:54 PM) 10 Teams done, will need 2 more
@  Mario Peña : (06 October 2015 - 02:35 PM) Alright guys, if anyone is interested in joining the Red94 fantasy basketball league we could use one more player to get us to 10 teams (or three to get us to 12 teams). Just check the thread in the Fantasy Basketball forum. Thanks!
@  thejohnnygold : (05 October 2015 - 06:23 PM) I use leaguepass here in Austin with no problems...
@  skip 2 my lou : (05 October 2015 - 03:14 PM) Hey fellas, I'm a rocket fan but I live in the heart of Dallas. Does anybody know if I buy NBA Leaguepass if it's too close to be subject to blackouts?
@  Losthief : (02 October 2015 - 02:24 AM) tks jg
@  thejohnnygold : (29 September 2015 - 05:16 AM) FYI, it was media day today. Interviews are up at NBA.com
@  slick shoes : (23 September 2015 - 06:37 PM) kind of late in the day but NBATV is broadcasting classis Rockets games all day today.
@  SadLakerFan : (16 September 2015 - 04:37 AM) Man, as a Laker fan, I'm learning how little you care about the off season when your team sucks. Anyway, a quick moment to remember Moses. Still remember watching the 81 team as a kid - losing record, NBA Finals. I would have cried w/joy if they could have beaten the Celtics.
@  jorgeaam : (15 September 2015 - 08:30 PM) http://bleacherrepor...ist-after-crash
@  jorgeaam : (15 September 2015 - 08:30 PM) So to celebrate his new contract, Montrezl Harrell saved someone's life on monday
@  thejohnnygold : (14 September 2015 - 04:36 PM) A good article from Blinebury talking about when Hakeem and Moses used to play in the park. LINK
@  rockets best... : (14 September 2015 - 02:29 AM) I agree totally. I got to watch his Rocket days and the man was a hell of a player. BIG MO R.I.P.

In Topic: How important is Ariza?

Moving on to Beverley's possible fit in Dallas--I actually like the move for Cuban (depending on price).  They basically have Harden-Lite in Monta Ellis so the situation is nearly identical.  If Cuban can snag Beverley and DeAndre Jordan I think Dallas could easily finish top 4 next season presuming they can keep Ellis, Aminu, and put a decent bench around them.

Maaaaaan... I thought we talked about this.

GUYS! We have a closet Mavs fan! And he moderates! I found the mole!

In Topic: How important is Ariza?

I don't think Ariza will be as easy to replace as some may feel. Yes, there are other "3 and D" wings out there but the ones that could be had at a discount compared to Ariza are either raw and in need of major development (which we cannot afford) or are just simply physically inferior. The thing about Ariza is that he can be switched onto anyone defensively, save for a Howard or Jordan style center. He can stay in front of PGs and he can bother the shots of lengthy, jump shooting bigs (like LMA), and everything in between. I cannot think of anyone in the league who fits the "3 and D" wing mold that has the versatility defensively that Ariza does. You also have to know that you need to replace a terrific on-court leader and the veteran, championship pedigree that he brings.

Going after LMA or Love also means that we have to ditch D-mo as our starting PF. While LMA would be a no-brainer because he's easily a top-10 player and that would give us 3 of those. I think you would be giving up too much for Love though. Way too much defense is lost if you have to give up Ariza and not have D-mo starting. Love is going to be good shooting and he will dominate long rebounds, but isn't the playmaker in the post that D-mo is, and not nearly the defender.

Personally I'm ready to give D-mo the keys to the PF slot full-time. I think he's fixin' to blow up, and it's one of the stories I'm anticipating most about next season. Sign a ringless vet at the minimum to spell him for 12 minutes per game and move on to other problems of our roster.

It always fun to speculate about big moves in the offseason, especially with Morey at our helm. But, guys, we went to the WCF last season and was competitive in all but 1 game of that series, we won the toughest division in the history of the sport, and were 3rd in the entire league last season. This roster doesn't need major changes that shake it's core, it's foundation. It needs minor tweaks. We need another backcourt playmaker/ball handler, who doesn't suck defensively. That's really about it. Also we need to ditch the wildly inconsistent performers in Jones and Smith, thank them for their services and move on, for good.

Congrats on your marriage Rahat!

Nice post, especially as hobbled as we have been, I would say this season was a gleaming success. I do believe we have the proper foundation for a championship. I do also believe that Morey has his work laid out for him this summer. Whereas in the past few seasons we were crippled by lack of stardom and had a solid supporting cast, now we have a solid star foundation and a hodgepodge collection of semi/mis-fits. The pegs not exactly fitting in their holes being:

  • Pablo: Too old to be a major part of any dynastic ambitions, athletically outmatched by every PG in the league
  • Terry: See Pablo, plus is best in a 2 guard role, not PG like we used him
  • Jones: Too wildly inconsistent, zero floor spacing capabilities, can't post up, eaten alive by bigger PFs
  • Smith: Like Jones but older
  • Brewer: Inconsistent, gambles too much, useless in 1/2 court sets
  • Beverley: Not a shot creator nor playmaker

All of these guys, IMO are totally expendable in pursuit of better fitting pegs. Other than Terry, who I believe will be happy in an inexpensive, greatly diminished role on a contender. Johnson and McDaniels are also as expendable but not included in the list because they didn't really see enough play time to determine their fit. Any combination of these guys should be used to bolster our PF and PG spots.

The guys other than H and H I would like to see stick around no matter what:

  • Ariza: can't find a better 3 and D wing for the price, without whom we definitely would have seen a 2nd and possibly 1st round exit.
  • D-Mo: emerged as one of the better post up players in the league, can spread the floor and is solid on D. Without who we would have never achieved the win total we did. Not nearly.
  • Capela: Perfect answer for relieving Howard for 24 minutes per night.. Agreed.

Either way, In Morey We Trust and I know we'll be right back there next season.

GO ROCKETS!

reading this thread I would swear D-Mo was Tim Duncan and T-Jones was garbage. IMO PF is NOT our weakest position. PG is. we got some nice play from Josh and T-Jones. did they make mistakes? YES, but faired far better than most thought they would. every team has weaknesses. it's the team best able to hide them and play to their strengths who excels. I believe we can thrive with our current PF's -Josh if we have a good PG. we need another facilitator. that's our problem in a nut shell

Please give me an example in the last two series where Jones gave us some nice play, I'll be waiting, like was said he had good games in Dallas, but that was about it.. Meanwhile please excuse away the last game: Jones (1 rebound) and Smith (4 rebounds), while Green himself had 13? Not counting Ezeli (9) and Barnes (7)... How is that even remotely excusable?

Yes, IMO, Smith and Jones make D-mo look like Duncan.. Great comparison, I agree..

Not disagreeing about need for a PG though., I just think it's time we settle on our PF and he should be D-mo, find somebody to back him up 12 minutes per game (cagey vet) and move on from Smith and Jones..

28 May 2015 - 04:44 PM

We really need to take some pressure off of Harden - someone else who can actually handle the ball. Bev, Terry, Prig, Ariza are not those guys. If any of those guys drive into a defense, a turnover is probably lurking. (Ariza drives me nuts when he tries to drive. He either a) turns it over or B) misses a 2 point jumper.)

It would be nice to get Harden a set shot to get him in rhythm. The only time he gets to play off-ball is when we have an offensive rebound. D-mo post-ups would have definitely helped.

Terry is primarily a 2-guard. Perfect bomber for a few minutes each game behind Harden. Beverley is an exceptional ball handler, protects it well. Prig is suitable too, but I suspect he was somewhat of a rental and he's a little too old to be driving through the trees. The development of Johnson will be something to watch this summer, hopefully he can fill the bill. Either way, PG needs some help. I wouldn't sacrifice Ariza due to ineptitude on drives, he brings so much else that it is forgivable, IMO. When that is the only option open to him, you can tell he's hesitant to take it though.

D-mo wouldn't have helped much in the rebound department, but his presence would have resulted in fewer missed shots and fewer long rebounds, so in a way it would have. As well as posting him up getting some attention off Harden.
